TCL is back with a new round of smartphones. The popular TV manufacturer has been trying its best in the smartphone segment for a while. Every year it comes with new releases for the various market segments. Today, the company presented two new affordable devices under TCL 30 E and TCL 30 SE monikers. Interestingly, these devices bring Android 12 straight out of the box. This is something that even larger brands are struggling to achieve. We can cite the recently-released POCO M4 Pro 4G that went official with Android 11. Without further ado, let’s see what these two devices have in tow for the market.
TCL 30 SE specifications
The TCL 30 SE packs a 6.52-inch LCD screen with a 1,600 x 720 pixels of resolution and a 20:9 aspect ratio. The display covers 70 percent of the NTSC color gamut and also offers up to 450 nits of brightness. An interesting addition is a 2.5D glass that always serves to give a premium look. Unfortunately, there is no mention of the refresh rate, so we can only conclude it’s a regular 60 Hz refresh rate.
Under the hood, the TCL 30 SE packs the old MediaTek Helio G25. This chipset is made on the 12 nm architecture and brings archaic ARM Cortex-A53 cores. The phone also brings 4 GB of LPDDR4X RAm and 64 GB or 128 GB of eMMC storage. However, if you want to further expand the storage you can thank a dedicated micro SD slot. The phone sports a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.
Gizchina News of the week
The rear camera is the same as on the pricier TCL 30 models. It includes the primary 50 MP camera with a bright f/1.85 aperture. The other sensors aren’t really relevant and here just to make numbers, anyway, they are 2 MP macro and 2 MP depth sensors.
The phone offers VoLTE and VoWiFi support and comes in single and dual-SIM versions. Only Wi-Fi 4 is supported, along with Bluetooth 5.0 and NFC. The USB Type C port withstands USB 2.0 speeds. The retail package brings a 10 W charger. The phone supports a 15 W charger if you get an alternative charging brick. The battery is huge with a 5,000 mAh capacity, and as aforementioned, the device runs Android 12.
TCL 30 E
If you are not impressed with the TCL 30 SE specs, the 30 E is even lower than this handset. The phone has the same 6.52-inch HD+ LCD screen but without the 2.5D curve.
Despite the lower price, the phone brings the same camera sensor. But the selfie snapper is down to a 5 MP snapper. Under the hood, the same Helio G25 with up to 3 GB of RAM and 64 GB of Internal Storage. The micro SD card slot is also present through a dedicated form.
The battery is a 5,000 mAh unit with 10W charging support. The phone also has a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and ships with Android 12.
Pricing and Availability
The TCL 30 SE will go official in Europe with a price tag that starts at €150. The TCL 30 E will launch in Europe only in April for a price tag of €140. We don’t think that saving €10 is a smart choice here.
