Qualcomm and Trimble have just announced a partnership for an interesting GNSS tech. The two companies have announced the Trimble RTX GNSS location tech for Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Snapdragon 888 powered smartphones that are coming in the second quarter of 2022. The industry technology company is partnering with Qualcomm to deliver meter-level (3 feet) location accuracy for smartphones. As per Trimble, this technology is 5 times more accurate when compared to currently used mobile correction services platforms.
As per Qualcomm and Trimble, the Trimble RTX delivers a more accurate, higher-quality navigation location. The goal is to deliver this tech on premium Android smartphones. Therefore, these devices will stand against the other smartphones in the mid-range and low-end segments. The added service will further allow developers and service providers to contribute with more accurate location information. As a result, this will further enhance the user experience for mapping, driving, and other forms of navigation.
Trimble and Qualcomm’s partnership will also expand to automotive OEMs and their Tier 1 part suppliers. This will further leverage the same meter-level accuracy positioning as well as advanced assistance systems and solutions for autonomous driving.
“Trimble and Qualcomm Technologies have a history of innovation in mobile location technologies, both separately and collaboratively,” saidĀ Lisa Wetherbee, general manager of Trimble Advanced Positioning. “Together, we are boosting premium Android phone functionality, helping mobile applications provide better information about the user’s immediate surroundings.”

To those unaware, Trimble stands as an industrial technology company that works with technologies in positioning, modeling connectivity, and data analytics. The company produces from “purpose-built products” to enterprise lifecycle solutions. The company currently acts in various industries such as agriculture, Construction, Geospatial, and Transportation.
Those following the smartphone world, already know a lot about Qualcomm. However, the company behind the excellent chips behind a large scale of flagship smartphones is also one of the leading companies in the connectivity world. The company has some of the most advanced 5G, 4G solutions and also has made significant advancements in the GNSS technology over the past few years.
Worth noting that Qualcomm has been working to extend its range of technologies. The company has been partnering for autonomous driving. We’re sure the new partnership with Trimble can benefit this as well.
