During the iOS 15 keynote was back in the last year’s WWDC, Apple announced a bunch of new features for the OS. It includes new practical enhancements for certain apps. For instance, it announced that the Apple Wallet app will concentrate more important information such as storing one person’s digital driver’s license. Unfortunately, the feature wasn’t available at the time of the iOS 15 launch as well as many other features. Since the release, we’ve been following news on Digital Driver’s license inclusion in the Apple Wallet. After deep testing, it seems to be finally live, at least in Arizona.
Apple Wallet with Driver’s License is now live in Arizona
We know that this feature is currently focusing on the United States. It makes perfect sense for the system to offer deeper integration with the US digital systems. After all, it’s easier for Apple as a US-based company, to get the necessary licenses for storing documents. The inclusion, now makes the iPhone’s Wallet app even richer than before. Users now can store credit cards, gift cards, boarding passes, and driver’s licenses at the application. The feature, as aforementioned, is rolling out firstly in Arizona, one of the states in the big Uncle Sam.

The Cupertino giant brought the good news this week. Arizona is the first state to offer driver’s licenses and state IDs in the Wallet App. The feature is available through an iPhone or even through an Apple Watch. The users just need to access the Wallet app on each respective device and present it to the authority when necessary. They can “seamlessly and securely” present their ID at Transportation Security Administration (TSA) security checkpoints in Phoenix Sky Harbord International Airport, for example.
Way back in September last year, Apple revealed it was working to implement the feature in multiple states. Arizona and Georgia are the first ones to get the new feature. Therefore, residents of Georgia can expect an update in this regard in the upcoming weeks. The following states include Connecticut, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Oklahoma, and Utah. Apple states it is enabling select airport security checkpoints and lanes in participating airports as the first locations for iPhone users to test out the new feature.
Users can have their IDs and Driver cards identified through an iPhone or Apple Watch
According to the iPhone maker, once a driver’s license or State ID enters the Wallet App, users can tap their iPhone or Apple Watch at the identify reader at participating TSA checkpoints. Users can consent to provide information, and even use biometric authentication with Face ID or Touch ID. The expansion will likely continue in the coming months.
Despite its announcement as an iOS 15 feature, we expect this feature to keep being implemented through the upcoming iOS versions. Meanwhile, iOS 15.4 is already available, but not without its own portion of issues.
