The Samsung Galaxy S22 series have been out for a month or so. There will be no Note models. So it’s quite logical that the Samsung fans are talking about the next-gen models nowadays. The Samsung Galaxy S 23 lineup handsets will be available next year. It’s too early to assume what look they will adopt and what features they will come with. But the new series has become the talk of the town. And from the leaks, we could learn about some key features.
It turns out Samsung is already working on the next-gen Samsung Galaxy S23 series. Internally, it has got an interesting name, “Project Diamond”. At least, PhoneArena proves it’s so.

Snapdragon 8 Gen2 In Samsung Galaxy S23
While for many people codenames mean nothing, Samsung has been always choosing internal labels quite carefully. So when saying the Galaxy S23 has a codename Diamond, be sure this has something serious behind it. Say, you shouldn’t rule out the possibility of being the first smartphone to sport the yet-to-be-announced Snapdragon 8 Gen2.
Gizchina News of the week
In fact, Qualcomm has already announced the next-generation Snapdragon 5G modem, namely the Snapdragon X70. And we know that the Snapdragon 8 Gen2 will integrate it. The Snapdragon X70 supports 10Gbps 5G peak download speed. Plus, it brings new advanced features, such as Qualcomm 5G AI kit, Qualcomm 5G ultra-low latency kit, and quad-carrier aggregation. In addition, the Snapdragon 8 Gen2 will also be handed over to TSMC for foundry.
What’s Hidden In The Codename?
In order to understand how Samsung selects codenames for its S line models, let’s take a quick look at the previous generations:
- Galaxy S22 family – Rainbow (R – S22; G – S22 Plus; B – S22 Ultra)
- Galaxy S21 – Unbound (aka Galaxy U)
- Galaxy S20 – Hubble
- Galaxy S10 – Beyond
- Galaxy S9 – Star
- Galaxy S8 – Dream
- Galaxy S7 – Project Lucky
In this sense, we can assume that Samsung is going to add some features to the Galaxy S23 that diamonds boast of. Say, the upcoming models might have a robust design or offer surprisingly long-term durability.
However, what we said above are just early assumptions. In this sense, it’s better to focus your energy, time, and money on the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4. These models will hit the stores this year. As for the Z Fold 4, it will come with a built-in S Pen, much-improved durability, and a new processor.
