Super bright 5-inch 1080p displays under production to ‘sunlight proof’ your phone

Phone displays have been going up in terms of size and resolution, but outdoor visibility remains to be a perpetual botheration for most. However, mobile display manufacturer JDI has been up for the task and has started production of display units which will attempt to make your phone more sunlight-friendly.

Gizchina News of the week

‘WhiteMagic’ is what JDI choose to call the displays in question. The panels will be built on the LCD technology, and in addition to the traditional RGB pixel layout, WhiteMagic panels will have an additional White pixel (effectively RGBW) which will enhance picture brightness by up to 1.5x without consuming any additional power, thus being battery friendly at the same time.

Mass production of VGA, qHD and 720p HD panels has already begun, and 1080p panels are the latest ones to go under production. JDI will be showcasing the displays at the FPD International 2013 in Japan between October 23-25.
