Back in the last week, Qualcomm officially presented the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1. Shortly after this announcement, we’re starting to see a lot of companies announcing their plans for smartphones with the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. We can already see that the new TSMC-manufactured Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 will be much more present than the previous Plus iterations. We can’t list more than 10 smartphones with the last year’s Snapdragon 888+, but apparently, the number of flagships with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 will easily overcome this barrier. After Realme and Asus, we just got a confirmation that the Xiaomi Redmi K50S Pro will use the new platform.
Xiaomi has already confirmed that its new flagship will use the platform. We can list a couple of smartphones touted to bring this chipset. However, today, newly leaked info from tipster @xiaomiui points to the chipset on the Redmi K50S Pro. Apparently, the new handset will reach the Chinese market as K50S Pro and global markets as Xiaomi 12T Pro. Other devices coming with this chipset are the Xiaomi 12 Ultra, Xiaomi 12S Pro, Xiaomi 12S, and the Mi MIX Fold 2. The only problem is, that apart from Redmi K50S Pro, none of these devices will leave the Chinese market.
Gizchina News of the week
Redmi K50S Pro / Xiaomi 12T Pro will be the only Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1-powered Xiaomi smartphone for global markets
Qualcomm has just announced that the first smartphones based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 Platform will arrive in Q2 2022. Well, we’re already seeing the release of the Oppo Reno 8 series with the new Snapdragon 7 Gen 1. And the first smartphones with the 8+ Gen 1 may pop out in the next month. Therefore, we won’t need to wait much longer to see the Redmi K50S Pro.
Xiaomi itself says that the Snapdragon 8+ isn’t a simple half-generation upgrade, but a “real experience innovation”. Well, the new SoC comes from a different manufacturer. It delivers a 10 percent performance increase with slightly higher clock speeds. However, the biggest upgrade comes in a 30 percent increase in power efficiency. The heating issues affecting its predecessor are reportedly gone with the new revision. So we can expect a significant upgrade with the new flagships.
For now, there aren’t many details about the Redmi K50S Pro. The new device will likely sit at the top of the Redmi K50 series in terms of performance. It will join the Redmi K50 Gaming Edition as one of the few 2022 Redmi K50 series smartphones using Qualcomm chipsets. The device may pop out in the next few months.
