Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 4G to be introduced with Snapdragon 720G

There are several smartphones in the market that are considered “pointless releases” for some. We often see these pointless releases in the mid-range and budget segment. They often appear as new-year editions of older smartphones. However, it’s not common to see these pointless launches in the flagship segment. However, we can say that the Galaxy S21 FE was considered a pointless launch for some. The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE was a very successful device, but Samsung took much time to launch the S21 FE due to the countless constraints in the manufacturing forces. The device was only launched in January, one month ahead of the Galaxy S22 series. Despite this, the company is still not done with this series and seems to be preparing a device that is even more questionable – a Galaxy S21 FE 4G variant with a super old chipset.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE, being pointless or not, has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC at the helm. This puts the phone in the flagship category. It is also a cheaper flagship entry in the Samsung Galaxy S family. However, there is a rumored Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 4G being prepared and it may bring a Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G which is old at this point. This chipset started to appear on smartphones in 2022 and is present on old devices such as the Redmi Note 9 Pro, and the Realme 7 Pro.

The Galaxy S20 FE has a 4G variant, and perhaps, Samsung believes that the Galaxy S21 FE also needs one. We’re still not sure if this chipset will make the device sell well in 2022. The Galaxy S20 FE 4G had the Exynos 990 which was not too distant from the Snapdragon 865 as the Snapdragon 720G is to the SD 888. Despite this, the company may try to sell it with the AMOLED screen, design, and camera capabilities.

The new model was spotted by the folks over at Galaxy Club with the SM-G990B2 model number. The original 5G smartphone has the SM-G990B model number. The B2 was certified by Bluetooth SIG with Bluetooth 5.2 on board. It is an upgrade over the 5G model’s Bluetooth 5.0 support. The device was already listed by retailers in Europe, so its release seems to be imminent.
