Chinese manufacturing giant, Xiaomi, releases a plethora of smartphones every year. Over the past few years, the popularity of OLED displays is significantly increasing. This is slowly obliterating the use of LCD displays. Most flagship smartphones now come with OLED displays and even mid-range devices are now using this screen. According to recent reports, Xiaomi has plans to phase out the use of LCD displays. Xiaomi Group Executive, Zhang Yu posted that the Redmi Note 11T Pro may be the last LCD screen phone.

However, some Xiaomi fans did not receive the news with excitement. They claim that the Redmi brand should continue its rhythm just like last year’s model. No doubt, the use of OLED displays means that the smartphone will become more expensive. At present, OLED has gradually become popular in mid-to-high-end models, and the Redmi Note series has also begun to switch to OLED screens, such as the Redmi Note 11 series, leaving less and less space for LCD.

Gizchina News of the week

OLED technology can not work for LCD screens

Lu Weibing, president of Xiaomi Group China and general manager of the Redmi brand, once said that the principles of OLED and LCD screens are different. Many OLED technologies cannot be translated to LCD, and industry resources are tilting towards OLED. Thus, most manufacturers either do not use LCD or use public products.

On the Redmi Note 11T Pro, Redmi has specially customized an LCD screen. This LCD screen has obtained the DisplayMate A+ certification. This is the first LCD high-refresh-rate screen in the industry that obtain the DisplayMate A+ certification. It is the best LCD display in history. However, it can be seen from Zhang Yu’s words that the follow-up models of the Redmi Note series may not continue to use LCD screens. Thus, the LCD party may be coming to an end with the Note 11T Pro series.
