Apple TV users that enjoy YouTube TV’s content through the streaming box will get a nice quality-of-life update today. YouTube has announced today support for 5.1 Surround Sound. The update will reach the YouTube TV app and is valid for compatible live, DVR, and video-on-demand.
Apple TV joins the list of devices supporting 5.1 Surround on YouTube TV
According to YouTube, the content that supports 5.1 surround sound will play in that format automatically. You only need to be using the app on a compatible device. Now, the Apple TV currently sits on the list of compatible devices. Users will be able to check whether the YouTube TV content supports 5.1 audio. They only need to go to a video, select More, select the Bug, and check stats for nerds. To those unaware, the 5.1 audio offers a deeper, immersive surround audio experience. There are multiple brand-related names for it such as Dolby Digital, THX, DTS, and Dolby Pro Logic. Interestingly, the addition of 5.1 audio reaches Apple TV a few months after Roku, Google TV, and Android TV.
5.1 Audio Update! 🔈🔉🔊 We now support 5.1 audio on Apple TV & Fire TV devices for compatible YouTube TV content (live, DVR, & video on-demand).
If you’re a game console user, we’re working on getting this available to you as soon as possible, and will share live updates here. pic.twitter.com/8Pmxrt1WqU

Gizchina News of the week
If you’re still wondering why this matter, we got you covered. Let’s say you have a stereo system with more than basic left and right speakers. The 5 x 1 system usually brings left, center, right, rear speakers, and a subwoofer. YouTube TV will be able to push sound through these five speakers and subwoofer without any hassle.
It’s a major upgrade over the basic stereo sound but sits below Dolby Atmos which has a 360-degree approach. Anyway, it’s a really nice addition and comes with the YouTube TV monthly fee.
Amazon’s Fire Devices also join the party
In addition to the Apple TV, the YouTube TV with 5.1 audio is also reaching a bunch of Amazon Fire devices. Looking at the newly included devices, we have the Fire TV Cube, Fire TV Stick 4K, and other versions of Fire TV Stick.
Besides the Apple TV and Amazon Fire TV, the YouTube service is also available on a multitude of other devices. We have Roku, Android TV, Chromecast with Google TV, multiple TV systems, Gaming consoles, and even the Web Browser. YouTube TV currently stands as the biggest live streaming service in the United States. It counts with more than 5 million subscribers at the last count. However, the streaming platform has a low growth rate when compared to Cartier.
