Samsung and Intel showcase upcoming rollable PC

The market of foldable smartphones may be the current trend in the industry. However, the rollable display is also a valid evolution. Unfortunately, no company is exploring this in smartphones right now. There is a number of reports, and prototypes from Oppo, but unfortunately no final product has been unveiled. In fact, LG almost unveiled a rollable smartphone. But it hadn’t enough time as its smartphone division bled to death. We may need to wait a little longer, but rollable screen devices are coming soon. Intel and Samsung are already moving on to unveil something in this regard. Today, Samsung Display CEO JS Choi revealed a new prototype computer. It has a rollable screen that stretches from a 13-inch tablet to a 17-inch panel. It’s equipped with Has flexible display and a sliding mechanism.

Samsung Rollable Display may create a new trend, and Intel wants to help

The Rollable Screen PC has no keyboard, and in fact, looks like a tablet. However, the executive states this product as the world’s first 17-inch slideable PC Display. The device will meet every need for a large screen, and will also offer portability. The demonstration shows that Samsung already has rollable tech. However, it’s betting on the PC lineup. Meanwhile, it will keep serving the smartphone business with foldable displays.

Intel also took the opportunity to show its Unison software on the display. This technology is designed to connect Intel-powered PCs with phones. Worth noting, that this rollable PC is just a concept. So, it’s not a real product or something ready to be commercial. However, the design shows the direction that these companies are taking. Samsung likely will bet on a new form factor to revamp the PC industry. Of course, Desktop PCs will keep existing in their own segment. But we may move to another product emerging in the portability range.

Hopefully, we’ll see Samsung and Intel releasing a rollable product in the coming years. Talking about the latter, it has been an important week for the company. After all, it has introduced its new Raptor Lake series and the new ARC 770 GPUs.

Apparently, the device carries the Slideable Flex moniker. However, this may be just a codename.
