Huawei Mate 50 Pro front camera scores tie with iPhone 14 Pro

Huawei Mate 50 Pro

Chinese brand, Huawei, was a major force in the mobile phone market before the U.S. ban put a hold on its growth. While the ban affects Huawei in different ways, there are some aspects of the mobile phone that the ban does not affect. One such area is the camera department. Even before the ban, Huawei has one of the best mobile phone cameras in the market. Because the company do not rely on any U.S. brand or even American tech in its camera, it continues to do well with mobile phone camera even after the ban. DxOMark is a standard mobile camera testing platform and the Huawei Mate 50 Pro made a glamorous entry.

Huawei Mate 50 Pro

DxOMark tested the front camera of the Huawei Mate 50 Pro. The final test result is 145 points, the same score as the iPhone 14 Pro. Both mobile phones are now joint first on the DxOMark front camera ranking. For the rear camera, the Huawei Mate 50 Pro scores 149 points while the iPhone 14 Pro lags behind with 146 points even behind mobile phones like Honor Magic4 Ultimate and Google Pixel 7 Pro. It is important to note that both the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max use the same front and rear camera. Thus, the Pro Max version of the iPhone 14 is not any better than the Pro version.

The Huawei Mate 50 Pro comes with a 13MP front lens with an aperture of f/2.4 aperture. To support this front camera, the company adds a 3D deep sensing camera. This front sensor supports 4K video recording. At the moment, not many front cameras in the mobile phone industry support 4K videos. Except for the fixed-focus front camera, most of the image specs of the Mate 50 Pro are the same as the Huawei P50 Pro. However, due to the new software solution and fine tuning, the image strength of the Mate 50 Pro is stronger than that of the P50 Pro.

DxOMark officially stated that Huawei Mate 50 Pro has a combination of powerful hardware and meticulous software tuning. The device can provide top-level performance in a balanced manner in most functions. The Huawei Mate 50 Pro captures high quality photos and videos in all lighting conditions, setting itself apart from the low light imaging competition. What makes all this possible is the new design of the Huawei Mate 50 Pro that controls the amount of captured light in many scenarios – the variable aperture system. The variable aperture also plays an important role in portrait shooting, while achieving a large depth of field, which is especially suitable for shooting with multiple people.

All the tests of DxOMark are completed under the default settings of the mobile phone. Thus, this test is carried out in the default mode of primary color under the XMAGE imaging system of the Mate 50 Pro. Some people have concerns about the authenticity of DxOMark rating.
