The Motorola Moto G53 Might Be the Best Smartphone Under $150!

Entry-level smartphones now have new standards

On December 16, Motorola held a dedicated event where it unveiled several new smartphones. Motorola X40 was one of them, which, in my opinion, has a great spec sheet. And needless to say, the X40 stole the show. However, the lineup also had Motorola Moto G53. And it definitely did not get as much attention as it should have.

The thing is, the Motorola Moto G53 doesn’t come with the latest and greatest specs. But for its price, the hardware combination of the Moto G53 makes it one of the best budget-friendly phones. And you should definitely know about it if you are looking for a smartphone under $150.

Motorola Moto G53 Specifications

The Motorola Moto G53 is priced at $130. This price tag might make you think that the phone is just another average entry-level device. But it’s not! Take a look at what it actually comes with:

  • Screen: 6.5-inch IPS LCD panel at 720×1600 resolution
  • Refresh rate: 120 Hz
  • SoC: Snapdragon 480 Plus with 5G
  • Storage: 128GB
  • RAM: 4GB or 8GB
  • Rear Camera: 50MP Primary with 2MP Macro
  • Front Camera: 8MP Wide
  • Battery: 5000 mAH
  • Charging Rate: 18W

As you can see, the price tag does not tell the whole story behind the Motorola Moto G53. Although it might seem like a regular entry-level smartphone, it actually packs decent hardware. For example, the screen! It’s not that easy to get a phone with a 120Hz IPS screen on the front at this price point.

Then, there is the camera and processor. Most of the other phones at this price tag come with a low-end camera and opt for an entry-level Mediatek processor. But the case is totally different for the Moto G53.

Gizchina News of the week

Yes, the Snapdragon 480 Plus on the Motorola Moto G53 is not going to break any records in terms of benchmarks. But it can definitely run all the day-to-day applications smoothly. Not to mention that the phone has an 8GB RAM variant. That, paired with the capable 480 Plus CPU, you are looking at a smartphone with good multitasking abilities.

The same thing goes for the camera. Its 50MP primary shooter should be capable of capturing some decent shots. However, do not expect to get a point-and-shoot camera experience with the G53. Let’s not forget the fact that Snapdragon phones have better GCam support. So, you can definitely get the most out of the primary sensor.

Moto G53 Will Be a Battery Life Champ

I purposely left out the discussion regarding the G53’s battery life in the previous segment. It needs a separate discussion! Why so? Well, in my opinion, the battery life of the Motorola Moto G53 will be amazing!

First, the G53 comes with a highly power-efficient SoC, the Qualcomm SD 480+. That CPU, with the measly 5000 mAh battery, can offer a superb screen on time! If I eventually pick the device up, I would not expect to worry about charging it at the end of the day.

Secondly, the screen does not have an FHD resolution. This panel might not awe you with details and visuals, but it will surely amp up the phone’s battery life. No matter how much of a load you put onto the device, as the screen is below the FHD mark, the tasks will not consume too much juice.

Finally, Motorola will definitely offer you the option to dial the refresh rate to 60Hz. In that setting, the battery life of the G53 will get further enhanced. Overall, even if the G53 does not win in any other criteria, I can see it beating the flagships in terms of battery life.

Colors and Availability

Motorola has already launched the Moto G53 in China on December 15. The pricing starts at ¥899, equivalent to $130. And it comes in two color options, Black and White. Although it’s currently only available in China, I expect to see it in the global markets in early 2023.
