Yesterday, some big news fell like a bomb in the hearts of Oppo and OnePlus fans across Europe. According to rumors that spread through the wind, the two brands were set to exit some key markets in the old continent. The list included Germany, The Netherlands, France, and the United Kingdom. That came all of the sudden and we were clueless about the reasons behind this decision. In the end, it seems that this was nothing beyond a rumor. The two companies quickly responded to these rumors with official statements. Oppo and OnePlus reassure their commitment to the European market, and apparently, there is no reason to leave right now.
OnePlus Global PR Manager James Patterson told Tech Advisor:
“OnePlus will not exit from Europe and the UK and maintains stable operations in local markets. OnePlus will continue to invest in Europe and provide more innovative product and solutions to its users.”
Oppo spokesperson also left a statement via email clarifying that they have big plans for 2023:
“We had a great start in 2023 with the successful launches of several products in Europe and have a line-up of upcoming products for the rest of the year. As always, Oppo will continue to provide more innovative products and the best-in-class service for users moving forward.”
Gizchina News of the week
While OnePlus makes it clear it has no plans to leave Europe, Oppo’s statement is rather focused on 2023. Of course, there is no reason to concern right now. If the company has plans to leave any market in the future, it will certainly issue an official statement to explain the facts.
When Huawei started to lose its relevancy in Europe, Chinese brands saw a big opportunity to grow and conquer former Huawei consumers. That strategy paid off, so we can’t see a reason for them to leave it right now. Oppo, for example, made a big move in February with the launch of the Oppo Find N2 Flip across Europe. It was the brand’s first foldable to leave China. Unfortunately, it seems that the same luck will not follow with the Oppo Find X6 Pro as it will stay exclusive to China. Perhaps, this decision was the one that gave strength to these rumors.
As for OnePlus, the brand has a good appeal among global consumers. We would not be surprised to see it acting as “Oppo’s face” in the coming years. In counterpart to the Find X6 Pro, the OnePlus 11 is already available in Europe. There are also rumors about the launch of a OnePlus V Fold. That one could be a reimagined Oppo Find N2 that will reach global markets. Oppo is developing the Oppo Find N3, but details about a possible global launch are still scarce.
