Feel the Music: Sonos Speakers Now Have Apple Music Spatial Audio

Earlier today, Sonos said that it would be adding support for Apple Music spatial audio on 28 March.

Not long ago, Sonos updated its iPhone and iPad apps to support playback of Apple Music spatial audio on the Sonos speakers and soundbars that support the feature. This is great news for music lovers, as Apple Music offers thousands of songs with spatial audio. After updating to version 15.2, these songs will be marked with the Dolby Atmos logo in the Sonos app.

What is spatial audio?

For those unaware, spatial audio is a multi-dimensional, immersive sound experience. It allows users to feel the atmosphere of a music scene in their own homes. It is worth noting that spatial audio is turning into the primary recording format used by big-name singers, music producers, and engineers. So if you own models such as the Arc and Beam (Gen2) or the Sonos Era 300, Apple Music will put you at the center of the music scene. The company’s music library includes a range of popular artists across all genres. And the number of tracks is growing all the time.

Sonos also supports Dolby Atmos, starting with the Sonos Arc, to enhance immersive 3D sound. With the addition of Apple Music spatial audio, Sonos users can now experience the magic of 3D sound effects. Coupled with Sonos’ patented Trueplay tuning technology, it can adjust the sound according to the room. The result is music that sounds much closer to the way it was meant to be heard. In this respect, Apple Music will make Sonos speakers even more popular.

Sonos’ latest Era 300 and Era 100 speakers support AirPlay 2. This means they can stream audio without wires from Apple devices. Before this, Sonos speakers were a cut above the rest. Now they have a serious advantage over their competitors.
