It’s the end for Lenovo Legion gaming phone series

Lenovo Legion

It has been a while since the last time we saw a Lenovo Legion handset. One could believe that this is pretty much normal because the Legion Y70 arrived last year. For some gaming brands, it’s okay to launch just one single model every year, but still, things are not too simple. It seems that this long waiting is justified by one single reason – the Lenovo Legion gaming phone series is no longer a series. The giant is now ceasing the life support system for this lineup.

The info has been given in a statement to Android Authority. One person at Lenovo states that this is a wider “business transformation and gaming portfolio consolidation”. You can check the statement below, but as you may know, it’s time to look for other gaming phones. Lenovo will now focus on other products.

Gizchina News of the week

“Lenovo is discontinuing its Android-based Legion mobile gaming phones. It is part of a wider business change and gaming portfolio consolidation. As a leader in gaming devices and solutions, Lenovo will keep advancing the gaming category across form factors. It will also focus on where it can bring the most value to the global gaming community.”

We don’t know if Lenovo plans a comeback with Motorola, but that does not seem to be the case. Perhaps, the company has completely changed its mind about the need for gaming phones. We have to say that after all those years, these devices are starting to lose certain relevancy. You may disagree with me, but honestly, the gaming phones are there just because of their “extras” like physical triggers, higher refresh rates, and cooling systems. Apart from that, their hardware is pretty much equal to regular smartphones.

Anyway, the gaming phone industry will still live for another year thanks to Nubia, ASUS, and Xiaomi. The Red Magic 8 series was launched a few months ago, ASUS will launch the ROG Phone 7 series soon, and Black Shark is expected to come with new gaming contenders soon.
