Discord is formally launching its own in-app soundboard that you may use in voice chats. You can use the soundboard to play a variety of noises in speech channels to amuse yourself or prank a friend. Formerly only available as a trial to a select few groups, the tool will now be made available to all users over the course of “the coming weeks,” according to a blog post on the Discord platform. Of course, we know that “the coming weeks” could technically mean “many weeks”.
Yet, there is a catch: Discord’s soundboard is only usable on the desktop app. According to Kellyn Slone, director of product communications, if you’re on your phone, you can hear the sounds but not utilize the board. Still, having an official Discord soundboard is still an upgrade over the past, when using a soundboard with the app requires using unofficial software like Voicemod.
