The foldable mobile phone market is becoming more mature and we expect more brands to launch foldable phones. Samsung is still on top at the moment though other brands like Huawei, Vivo, Motorola and Xiaomi have decent foldable phones. At the moment, two U.S. mobile phone brands, Google and Apple are working on their foldable phones. However, it appears that Google’s model will launch before Apple. A few hours ago, popular tech blogger @evleaks revealed a render of the coming Google Pixel Fold. From the render, when the mobile phone folds, the outer screen is just what we would expect. However, when the device is unfolded, the inner screen comes with really thick bezels like we were taken five years back.

In the foldable mobile phone market, those who do not want Chinese products really have no many options besides Samsung. Thus, it will be cool to see the Google Pixel Fold bring some pressure on Samsung. At the moment, it has very little or no rival because of the market niche.

Google Pixel Fold – What to Expect

Google is set to launch its first-ever foldable mobile phone, the Pixel Fold, in June 2023. The phone will be announced at the annual developer conference, Google I/O, on May 10. The Pixel Fold will compete with Samsung‘s foldable phones and will be marketed as water-resistant and pocket-sized, with an outside screen that measures 5.8 inches across. The phone will open like a book to reveal a small tablet-sized 7.6-inch screen. This new device will have the same size as the display on Samsung’s foldable phone. Google plans to market the Pixel Fold as having “the most durable hinge on a foldable” phone. In addition, this device will offer a phone trade-in option.

The Pixel Fold will give Google a chance to show what a fully Google-made foldable phone experience is like. Other Pixels have exclusive features that aren’t available on all Android phones, like Google’s Titan M security chip and the company’s custom machine learning chip. The phone is expected to be the priciest of the Pixel smartphone lineup at $1,700+. However, some rumours suggest that Google will try to undercut the Samsung Z Fold series in price by selling the Pixel Fold for $1,400, which is $400 less than the Samsung Z Fold 3.

One of the most significant challenges for foldable phones is the durability of the hinge. Google claims that the Pixel Fold will have “the most durable hinge on a foldable” phone. The phone will weigh around 284 grams and will feature water resistance. The phone’s design and camera departments have been leaked, and a video shared by a known leaker, Kuba Wojciechowski, might just be our very first real-life look at the Pixel Fold in action. The video shows the phone opening and closing, and the hinge looks sturdy and durable.

With this outer screen’s huge bezels, the screen-to-body ratio will be comparatively low. Hopefully, users will be able to overlook this downside.
