Apple Watch Series 9 will get siginificant performance boost in years

Apple dedicated much of its attention last year to the development of the Apple Watch Ultra. Consequently, the Watch Series 8 launched alongside it didn’t receive a substantial upgrade. In fact, the regular Watch Series has experienced minimal changes over the course of several years.

For instance, Series 8 and its predecessor, Series 7 utilize a System on Chip (SoC) that closely resembles the S6 chip used in the Apple Watch Series 6. However, it seems like this year might be the time when Apple will finally introduce a significant performance boost to the Watch Series 9. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the company is expected to include a new processor in the upcoming watch which will be based on the A15 Bionic chip that was initially introduced in the iPhone 13 lineup.

Watch Series 9 will have a performance boost with Apple’s A15-based chip

Gurman reveals that the Series 9 chip for the Apple Watch will be an entirely “new processor” rather than a mere rebranding of the chip used in the previous generation. Equipped with an upgraded chip incorporating the advanced A15 Bionic technology, the ‌Apple Watch Series 9‌ holds the potential for a notable boost in performance and power efficiency. This could translate into faster loading times and improved battery life, enhancing the overall user experience. The new chip will also support the implementation of Apple’s upcoming features in watchOS 10.

An interesting change in watchOS 10 is the reimagining of the Digital Crown’s functionality. Instead of directing users to the home screen, it could rather provide access to widgets. Additionally, rumors suggest that the company is developing a new AI-driven health coaching service called Quartz. The A15-based chip can greatly aid in seamlessly integrating these new features.
