The iPad Clones are Coming!

The ink reporting the iPads launch date is still wet on the paper, but that hasn’t stopped Shenzhen’s Teso from leaking spy shots and spec details of its own iPad wannabe.

By the tone of Teso’s CEO, Wu Ye, the announcement sounds to be a preemptive strike out against foreign tech industries in bringing their products to China. He states that the Chinese technology industry doesn’t have the big guns its automotive counterpart has to fend off the influx of foreign innovation and gadgetry, and calls for local tech companies to get their act together to show the world what they can do.

It’s certainly a nice thought, but ripping off Apples iPad and riding the media shock wave to fame and fortune is surely the wrong way to go about it!

The unnamed Shenzhen iPad clone comes in the same 10.1inch form factor as the genuine iPad’s, and features a capacative touchscreen with multi-touch support. The similarities however, pretty much end there.

Gizchina News of the week

On the back side of the chassis the classy looks of the front haven’t followed the originals, and your greeted with a rather cheap looking white plastic material with vents and a sim card slot. A real, full size, same as your phone’s 3G sim, sim card slot though! Not a mini sim as spec’d on Apple’s tablet.

The shoulders house a variety of plugs and switches. HDMI out, a volume rocker, 3.5mm headphone jack, a power switch, 3 USB plugs and a SD card reader. like Cupertino, Teso have decided not to offer a camera, but with USB’s to spare and a Window’s O.S there are plenty of aftermarket cameras that should work.

Windows 7 runs on a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 processor.  1GB DDR2 ram, GPS, 3G connectivity, a 3000mAh battery, and a standard 2.5 inch SATA drive make up the rest of the specs.

The unit measures 29×15×2cm, and weighs in at about 1.2kg. There are no release dates or pricing details as yet, but expect around 2000-3000RMB for a basic model.

We’ll post more info as we get it!
