Microsoft is making a significant change to its chatbot accessibility, as the company is now testing support for Bing Chat in third party browsers. Previously, Bing Chat was exclusively available on Microsoft Edge, the brand’s own web browser.

However, this is about to change, as Microsoft has started the testing phase for its chatbot on browsers other than Edge. This discovery is made by some Reddit users. They were able to use Microsoft’s chatbot on popular browsers such as Google Chrome and Safari. The news was later confirmed on Twitter by Mikhail Parakhin, the head of Microsoft’s advertising and web services division.

Bing, Microsoft’s search engine, was available just 14 years ago on June 3, 2009. Since then, it has struggled to compete with Google and gain a significant portion. Google dominates the online search sector with over 85% market share.

Gizchina News of the week

Integrating Bing Chat with other browsers could prove to be highly advantageous for Microsoft’s search engine. The introduction of ChatGPT in Bing earlier this year already helped boost its popularity. Bing Chat has become so popular that both the Bing and Edge applications experienced a notable increase in popularity on the App Store.

Until now, the use of Bing Chat was limited to the Edge browser. Microsoft initially made it a requirement to use their web browser in order to access the Chatbot powered by ChatGPT. However, workarounds existed to bypass these limitations, although they involved installing third party extensions in the browser.

Fortunately, this inconvenience is soon to be a thing of the past. While the support for Bing Chat on other browsers is still in the testing phase, its deployment will take place in the coming weeks. Although Microsoft has not officially released the full list of supported browsers, it is highly likely that Chrome, Firefox, and Safari will be among them.

Overall, Microsoft’s decision to expand Bing Chat’s accessibility will lead to increased usage statistics for Bing. By enabling users to access the chatbot from different browsers, Microsoft is likely to attract more users. And enhance the competition of its search engine.
