With the Galaxy 23 Ultra launch, Samsung made a major shift in the camera department of its flagships. It came with an upgraded main camera and packed a lot of computational smartness. Even the selfie camera saw an upgrade on that phone. However, the case will not be the same with the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
Well, that’s what the latest report regarding the development of the Galaxy S24 series suggests. The report comes from IceUniverse, known to be credible and accurate with information, and it says that Samsung will stick with the same 200MP camera for the next generation of its flagship phones.
The Same Hardware Only Leaves Room for Software Improvements
With the ISOCELL HP2 sensor, Samsung can only offer software improvements on the Galaxy S24 Ultra. And let’s not forget to mention that the phone will reportedly use the same 12MP Sony camera as a telephoto lens. It’s the same IMX754 found in the Galaxy S23 Ultra, which offers 3x optical zoom.
The case is the same for the ultrawide camera. That is, the Galaxy S24 Ultra will utilize the same 12MP Sony IMX564 present in the S23 Ultra. However, there’s one sensor that Samsung will likely upgrade on the phone. And that would be the second telephoto sensor.
Gizchina News of the week
Samsung is said to use a slightly upgraded Sony IMX754+ sensor, which will offer 10x optical zoom. And while Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is already great at zoom photos, this sensor could take things to the next level.
Now, while the report is only mentioning the Galaxy S24 Ultra, the same might be true for the other two phones of the series.
Analyzing This Tip About the Galaxy S24 Ultra
So, the report is basically saying that we will just see Samsung upgrading the 10x telephoto sensor of the Galaxy S24 Ultra. And this is the first time we heard about Samsung’s emphasis on the zoom sensors on next-gen devices.
But the previous report from Sammobile suggested that Samsung will utilize a new ISOCELL Zoom sensor. While this report is a little contradicting, as it says that S24 Ultra will still use a Sony sensor for telephoto, it does point in the same direction. Even so, the S23 Ultra is a great camera phone. So, the lack of significant upgrades should not make the S24 Ultra unworthy of purchase.
Still, nothing is confirmed before Samsung officially announces something. So, treat this information with a grain of salt.
