SK hynix, a leading global semiconductor manufacturer, has announced that it has begun supplying the industry’s first 24-gigabyte (GB) Low Power Double Data Rate 5X (LPDDR5X) mobile DRAM package to its customers. The company started mass production of LPDDR5X in November 2022.
The 24GB LPDDR5X package operates in the ultra-low voltage range of 1.01 to 1.12V set by the Joint Electron Device Engineering Council (JEDEC). And can process 68GB of data per second, which is equivalent to transferring 13 FHD (Full-HD) movies in one second. This makes it the fastest and most power-efficient mobile DRAM package on the market.
SK hynix Begins Supplying Industry’s First 24GB LPDDR5X Mobile DRAM Package
SK hynix has confirmed that the Oneplus Ace 2 Pro, which will be unveiled next week, will use SK hynix’s 24 GB LPDDR5X package. The Ace 2 Pro is expected to be one of the most powerful smartphones on the market. And the 24GB LPDDR5X will help to ensure that it delivers a smooth and responsive experience. Even when running multiple demanding apps at the same time.
In addition to the 24GB LPDDR5X, the Ace 2 Pro will also feature OnePlus‘ exclusive self-developed “memory genetic recombination” technology and the world’s first “global memory architecture” on the 24 GB RAM version. The “memory genetic reorganization” technology is the most thorough reconstruction of the bottom layer of Android memory. Including a number of core technologies such as “instantaneous bandwidth” technology. It increases the amount of data captured in nanoseconds by a full 16 times, greatly improving memory access efficiency.
With the support of super large RAM and the exclusive self-developed “memory genetic recombination” technology, the 24GB version supports 54 commonly used applications to be open. And the company said that it achieved a record of keeping 41 commonly-used applications open for 72 hours. OnePlus also said that the Ace 2 Pro has also passed TÜV SÜD’s 48-month smooth A-level certification. Allowing customers to use it smoothly for more than 4 years.
Louis Li, Vice President of Marketing at OPPO, said: “With the timely supply of 24GB LPDDR5X from SK hynix, we were able to become the first to launch a smartphone that features the industry’s largest capacity DRAM. This new smartphone will allow the customers to enjoy optimized multi-tasking environment as well as extended battery life.”
Gizchina News of the week
The launch of the Oneplus Ace 2 Pro with SK hynix’s 24GB LPDDR5X is a significant milestone in the development of mobile memory. The new package offers a significant performance and power efficiency improvement over previous generations. And it is expected to become the standard for high-end smartphones in the coming years.
Do we really need 24GB of RAM in smartphones?
Whether or not we really need 24GB of RAM in smartphones is a matter of debate. On the one hand, 24GB of RAM is a lot of memory. And it would allow users to run multiple demanding apps at the same time without any lag or slowdown. This would be especially beneficial for gamers, power users, and anyone who likes to multitask on their phone.
On the other hand, 24GB of RAM is also very expensive. It is not clear that most people would actually need that much memory in their phone. For the average user, 8GB of RAM is probably sufficient.
Ultimately, the decision of whether or not to buy a smartphone with 24GB of RAM is a personal one. If you are a power user or a gamer, then 24GB of RAM could be a worthwhile investment. However, if you are an average user, then you are probably better off with a phone with 8GB or 12GB of RAM.
Here are some factors to consider when deciding whether or not you need 24GB of RAM in your smartphone:
- The type of apps you use. If you play demanding games or use apps that require a lot of memory, then you may benefit from having 24GB of RAM.
- Your multitasking habits. If you like to run multiple apps at the same time, then 24GB of RAM can help to ensure that your phone does not slow down.
- Your budget. 24GB of RAM is very expensive, so you need to decide if it is worth the cost for you.
If you are still not sure whether or not you need 24GB of RAM in your smartphone, then it is a good idea to talk to a salesperson or do some research online. You can also try using a phone with 24GB of RAM to see if it makes a noticeable difference in your experience.
