Finally, Apple has held its annual launch event where the company announced a couple of new products. At the event, the Cupertino company unveiled the new Apple Watch Series 9, the Apple Watch Ultra 2 and of course, the new iPhones. Similar to the previous year, Apple unveiled four different devices in the iPhone 15 Series. These include the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
All four devices took a step further from their individual predecessors. However, the Pro models have gone a bit extra this time around. The Pro models not only went beyond the standard ones but also took an additional step forward, with the iPhone 15 Pro Max leading the way. Before highlighting the main difference between the two pro models, let’s take a quick look at the new exciting specifications of the Pro lineup of the iPhone 15 Series.
Specifications of the iPhone 15 Pro Lineup
Chipset
First of all, the iPhone 15 Pro models feature Apple’s latest Bionic A17 Pro chip which is based on 3nm architecture. According to Apple, this new chip not only provides a 10% improvement in speed compared to its predecessor but also doubles the speed of the Neural Engine. This is mainly due to that fact that the GPU has undergone a whole new redesign since the inception of the iPhone. The redesigned GPU makes it 20% faster than that of the A16 Bionic chip.
Another noteworthy feature of the A17 chip is its dedicated hardware for raytracing. Unlike the A16 which used software processing to enhance ray tracing, the A17 makes use of a hardware accelerated raytracing. According to Apple, the hardware – accelerated ray tracing makes the iPhone 15 Pro line 4x faster than the iPhone 14 series when it comes to ray tracing.
Design
Even though the iPhone 15 Pro models inherited the familiar design of the previous models, you could easily identity some clear difference just by taking quick a look. This is something Apple has not done since the iPhone 12 series.
The use of grade 5 titanium material gives the iPhone 15 Pro models a stunning appearance compared to previous models. The new material doesn’t just improve the overall look of the smartphones but also reduces the weight of the handsets. Measuring at just 187g and 221g respectively, the iPhone 15 Pro lineups are the lightest in Apple’s history.
Another notable change will be the slight curves on the back of the phones. Ever since Apple introduced the iPhone 12 series, the sharp edges have been one of its downsides.
Holding an iPhone in your palm for a few minutes becomes quite uncomfortable due to these sharp edges. Apple has finally taken care of that in the iPhone 15 Pro lineups. The company has gently bent the back panel into the Titanium frame to make the handsets feel very comfortable in the palm irrespective of how long you hold it.
For the first time ever, Apple has also gotten rid of the traditional mute key. The company has replaced it with a customizable digital button which is pressed rather than turning it up and down.
By default, pressing and holding the new mute button will trigger the iPhone into silent mode or normal mode. However, users can customize it to do even more such as voice recording, turning on flashlight, etc.

Display of the iPhone 15 Pro Models
In terms of the display, Apple has also taken a step further in the iPhone 15 Pro models. The iPhone 15 Pro lineup features LTPO Super Retina HRD OLED display with a refresh rate of 120Hz. You also get a typical brightness of 1000 nits and peak brightness of up to 2000 nits which makes the display twice as brighter as that of the iPhone 14 Pro lineup.
Difference Between the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max
As we have already stated earlier, the iPhone 15 Pro Max has moved a step further from the iPhone 15 Pro this time. Normally, Apple tries to make everything the same between both devices with the exception of the different screen sizes and battery capacities. However, the American company has distinguished the bigger model a bit more this time around.
Display
Apart from the fact that both devices have different screen sizes, the iPhone 15 Pro Max also features a sharper display than the iPhone 15 Pro in terms of resolution.
While the iPhone 15 Pro features a screen resolution of 1179 x 2556 pixels, its larger version features an even better resolution of 1290 x 2796 pixels. That’s not all for the screen though. Apple has also trimmed down the bezels on the larger model a bit further than they did for the normal Pro. You could clearly see this due to the difference in screen-to-body ratio on both devices. While the iPhone 15 Pro offers a screen-to-body ratio of 88.2%, the larger model has 89.8% screen-to-body ratio. This makes the overall display look better on the larger Pro model.
Battery
Before the announcement of the 2023 iPhones, there were a lot of rumors concerning the battery of the latest devices from Apple. However, it is said that where there’s no problem, there’s no need seeking for solutions. The iPhone 14 Pro series boast of one of the best battery lives on any smartphone in the world. Therefore, Apple didn’t see the need to increase the battery size of the new models.
Apple has also come out to confirm that the new iPhones will not bring any notable upgrade to the battery lives. That shouldn’t be a problem for any user since there’s nothing to complain about the battery lives of the iPhone 14 series.
Camera
Since the iPhone 11 Pro models, Apple has decided to stick to triple camera setups till date. In the iPhone 15 Pro models, the company still made use of the same number of cameras. Nevertheless, they have done something different to the Pro Max model this time around.
First of all, it is worth noting that both handsets feature 48MP main camera, 12MB ultrawide lenses and 12MP zoom lenses. However, the company has given the Pro Max users a run for their money this time when it comes to zooming. While the normal pro model features a 3x zoom Telephoto lens, Pro Max users will enjoy the luxury of going further to 5x zoom with the use of a Periscope lens.
When it comes to video, both smartphones can now be able to record up to 4K at 60 frames per second.
Conclusion
Unlike the previous models, buying the Pro Max model of the iPhone is beginning to make a lot of sense this time. Also note that the storage of the standard pro model starts at 128GB, but the Pro Max starts at 256GB now. This time, users are not paying the extra cash just to get a bigger screen, but they also get a bit of almost everything else which is a good decision making by Apple.
