Valve entered the handheld gaming market back in 2021 by releasing the Steam Deck. As the handheld device is now more than two years old, fans were expecting Valve to release the second-gen model. But instead, Valve released the Steam Deck OLED.
As the name suggests, the main upgrade for the Steam Deck OLED is that it comes with an OLED screen. The previous version came with LCD screens. This screen brings all the advantages of OLED screens, which include deep blacks and brighter whites. Also, it offers upgrades in terms of visuals and battery performance.

The new Steam Deck OLED brings HDR support and can go up to 1000 nits in brightness. You also get more screen space, as the new model sees a 0.4-inch screen size increase.
Also, the Steam Deck OLED has support for a 90Hz refresh rate. To compare, the LCD model could only offer 60Hz. This upgrade will make the display offer smoother motions and a better overall gaming experience.

In addition, the new Steam Deck OLED equips a refreshed 6 nm APU. To compare, the previous model featured a 7 nm APU. Valve says this will lead to better battery life, making the handheld device more power-efficient than the predecessor. To be exact, its 50 Wh battery should offer three to twelve hours of runtime.
Other highlights of the new Steam Deck include 16 GB of LPDDR5 RAM, Bluetooth 5.3, support for WiFi 6E, and a 30-gram weight reduction from the original model. The new version will be available to purchase from November 16 at 10 AM Pacific. The starting price is US$549, which is for the 512 GB storage option.
