YouTube has been fighting against ad blockers for quite a while now. And with the recent actions from the platform, it’s pretty clear YouTube wants more people to subscribe to its Premium subscription. Now, to make the Premium tier a little more enticing, it has rolled out YouTube Playables.
So, with the addition of Playables, you get an enhanced ad-free experience and access to some of the platform’s cool features through the Premium tier. That said, the feature may not be available by default. Some users have reported that they received a notification from YouTube about enabling it from the Settings tab.
What Exactly Is YouTube Playables?
YouTube Playables is basically a value-added feature that comes with no extra cost. And this isn’t something new. We’ve already seen a similar approach from Netflix. Nonetheless, on YouTube, it has its own section on the app and the desktop website. When you get into it, it allows you to play arcade games.

The good part is that you don’t need to download anything. All the games will run on the YouTube app or the desktop browser. At the moment, it’s possible to play one of the 37 games that YouTube Playables will offer. And that game is Angry Birds Showdown.
That said, YouTube Playables may be a temporary feature, as YouTube isn’t too sure about it. The streaming platform says that the service will be available until March 28, 2024. It will assess whether the service is actually something that Premium users would want to use. If not, it may scrape the feature.
In other news related to YouTube Premium, the enhanced 1080p option is now available on Android and TVs. Previously, it was available for iOS and the web version only.
