Huawei Nova 12 Launches with New Kirin 8000 4G SoC


We’ve had multiple reports regarding the Huawei Nova 12 series ever since the brand officially announced it. Well, the smartphone lineup is finally out. And it seems that most of the reports regarding the series were true. But among all, the primary highlight of this launch is the Kirin 8000.

For those wondering, Huawei made it to the headlines after launching the Mate 60 series with Kirin 9000S. It was Huawei’s first SoC after three years of US sanctions. So, the Kirin 8000 of the Huawei Nova 12 basically represents another push from the Chinese giant. Although, unlike the Kirin 9000S, the Kirin 8000 doesn’t have 5G.

Main Highlights of the Huawei Nova 12

Even though the Huawei Nova 12 is the base version of the series, it brings some good specs. For example, you get a large-sized 6.7-inch OLED screen on the front. It features an FHD+ resolution and has support for a 120 Hz refresh rate. With slim bezels, this screen does have the potential to deliver a highly immersive viewing experience.

Under the hood, the Huawei Nova 12 comes with the new Kirin 8000. As mentioned earlier, it’s a 4G chipset with a ‘1 + 3 + 4’ core configuration. It utilizes Mali G610 as the GPU and is paired with 8 GB of RAM. As for the storage, you can get the device with up to 512 GB of memory.

A 4600 mAh battery powers the internals of the Nova 12. It can charge at 100 watts, which should make the smartphone go from 0% to 100% fast. As for the camera setup, the Huawei Nova 12 features a triple camera configuration on the back. The primary camera of the device is a 50 MP shooter.

It’s paired with a macro sensor and an 8 MP ultra-wide shooter. While the Ultra variant has variable aperture, the primary sensor of this setup comes with a fixed f/1.9 aperture. On the front, the Huawei Nova 12 has a 60 MP ultra-wide selfie sensor housed in a centered hole punch.

Other specs of the Nova 12 include an in-display fingerprint sensor, NFC, dual SIM support, Bluetooth 5.2, and laser autofocus.

About the New Kirin 8000 Chipset

Details regarding the new Kirin 8000 SoC are still scarce. After all, the smartphone has just made its debut. But, according to WHYLAB, the Kirin 8000 inside the Huawei Nova 12 features a ‘1 + 3 + 4’ core configuration with 4 low-power cores in the last cluster. The first 4 cores are TaiShan cores. But they are clustered differently with different core clocks.

As shared by WHYLAB, the first TaiShan core is clocked at 2.4 GHz, while the second cluster with three TaiShan cores is clocked at 2.18 GHz. The low-power cores, on the other hand, come with a clock speed of 1.84 GHz. WHYLAB shared this information by getting into the hardware details of the device. Pricing and Availability of the Huawei Nova 12

The Huawei Nova 12 comes in three different color options: Black, Gray, and Blue. You can choose between two different storage options: 256 GB and 512 GB. The 256 GB version is CNY2999, which is around $420. On the other hand, the 512 GB version is CNY3399, which converts to around $560.

That said, the Nova 12 is currently in the pre-order phase in China. Open sales will start on 5th January next year. Also, the device should soon make its way to the international markets.
