First-Gen Google Pixel Watch Receives Some Second-Gen Features

Google Pixel Watch

TheĀ Google Pixel Watch 2Ā launched with a handful of changes, which range from faster performance to better battery life. But overall, theĀ newer smartwatchĀ isn’t a new unit. Instead, it’s more of a slight refresh of the first-gen wearable. It even comes with the same design as the original smartwatch.

All these made us wonder if Google would bring some of the Pixel Watch 2 features to the original smartwatch. Well, the Google Pixel Feature Drop for March 2024 has given us the answer. That is, the original wearable now has some of the convenient features that the second-gen device debuted with.

First-Gen Pixel Watch Focuses More on Health and Fitness

Most of the new features that have dropped for the first Google Pixel Watch focus on the health and fitness tracking capabilities of the smartwatch. Among them is pace training, which will enable the users to set a goal during an exercise. After the goal is set, the pace training feature will let the users check how close they went to their target during the workout.

To make this pace training work as it should, the Pixel watch will be using its power-optimized motion sensors and GPS. The smartwatch will also show you the stats on the screen. What’s more interesting is that the wearable will send notifications when the users start to fall outside the targeted pace.

The next new feature for the original Google Pixel Watch is heart zone training. This will let the users monitor the time they spend in different heart rate zones. The wearable will categorize the zones according to the user’sĀ resting heart rateĀ and current fitness level.

With the heart zone training feature, Google wants to provide users with the information they need to set personal targets. The Pixel Watch will use voice cues and haptic notifications when the users are moving from one heart zone to another.

Another convenient feature of the Google Pixel Watch is auto workout detection. The smartwatch can now automatically start and stop activity tracking. It has support for rowing, treadmill, spinning, outdoor bike, spinning, running, walking, and elliptical.

The last fitness feature for the Google Pixel Watch is the Fitness Relax app. It introduces breathing exercises to the users and lets them track moments of mindfulness that they have completed. This is perfect for those who need to take a moment and take a step back sometimes.

Transit Becomes Easier With Google Maps

The other new feature for the Google Pixel Watch, other than the health and fitness ones, is related to the Google Map app. With the update installed, the app will offer transit directions on the smartwatch. This will give the users real-time information on departure times and a compass-enabled map for easier commutes.
