In January 2023, Microsoft unveiled Microsoft 365 Basic, a fresh tier priced at $1.99 per month. This plan provided users with perks like ad-free Outlook and 100GB of storage on OneDrive. Now, Microsoft is broadening the Basic plan by incorporating various security features that were previously exclusive to subscribers of the pricier Microsoft 365 Personal and Family plans.
New Additions to Microsoft 365 Basic
Ransomware detection and protection: OneDrive now includes the capability to monitor your storage for potential ransomware threats, such as encryption or unauthorized modifications. If any suspicious activity is detected, OneDrive promptly sends a notification along with instructions for recovery.
Expanded Personal Vault: Previously, users could only store three files in their Personal Vault, a secure folder requiring additional two-factor authentication. With the latest update, there is no longer a limit on the number of files you can store in your Personal Vault.
Password-protected and expiring links: Microsoft 365 Basic subscribers now have the ability to protect shared files with passwords and set expiration dates. This feature enhances security and allows for more control over shared files, ensuring a safer sharing experience.
