Kirin 9010 of Huawei Pura 70 Ultra Gets Benchmarked

Huawei Kirin 9010

Huawei Pura 70 Ultra is the latest top-end device of the company. Like the Mate 60 series, the entire lineup of Pura 70 has an in-house Kirin chipset. However, with theĀ entire PuraĀ 70 series, the company has introduced the new Kirin 9010. It promises to deliver better performance than the Kirin 9000.

However, it seems Huawei still doesnā€™t have what it takes to deliver better performance than the Snapdragon mid-range SoCs.Ā As a matter of fact,Ā the latest benchmarks have shown that the Kirin 9010 canā€™t even beat the last-gen Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2.

A Closer Look At the Benchmark Kirin 9010 of Huawei Pura 70 Ultra

So, we have multiple benchmark numbers of the Kirin 9010. Letā€™s first start with the Geekbench 6 results. The new Huawei SoCĀ achieved a score ofĀ 1,446 in single-core and 4,524 in multi-core. Compared to the current flagship SoCs, which are Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and Dimensity 9300, these numbers areĀ very low. Even the two-year-old flagship Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 performs better. It gets an average score of 1,741 in single-core and 4,584 in multi-core.

Of course, given that Huawei doesnā€™t have advanced chipset manufacturing technologies, it would be unfair to compare it with current flagships. So, letā€™s compare it with the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2,Ā which isĀ a last-gen mid-range SoC.Ā Well,Ā even so, things are not looking pretty for the Kirin 9010.

The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 has an average score of 1,687 in single-core and 4,378 in multi-core. So, while the Kirin 9010 does manage to beat the last-gen SoC in multi-core, it fails to catch up with the single-core score. Things get even worse when you consider the GPU performance.

Huawei Pura 70 Ultra with the Kirin 9010Ā gets a score ofĀ 1,531 in 3DMark Wild Life Extreme Unlimited. On the other hand, the last-gen Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 scores 1,956 in the same benchmark. As forĀ AnTuTu benchmark scores, the Huawei chipset gets 1,95,380, while the last-gen mid-range Snapdragon SoC gets 3,37,915 points.

Kirin 9010 Specs

Fabrication Process 5nm
CPU Cores 1 x Taishan Prime Core @ 2.30 GHz
3 x Taishan Middle Core @ 2.18 GHz
4 x Cortex-A510 @ 1.55 GHz
GPU Maleoon 910 @ 750 MHz

But benchmarks aren’t everything, and they don’t make the Huawei P70 Ultra a bad phone

While the Kirin 9010 fails to beat the last-gen Snapdragon mid-range SoC, you need to consider that benchmark numbers arenā€™t everything. As mentioned earlier, Huawei is very limitedĀ when it comes toĀ accessing advanced chip manufacturing technologies. The fact that it was still able to offer 5G support last year was an impressive thing.

Thereā€™s no denying that the Hauwei Pura 70 Ultra isnā€™t the fastest smartphone in the market. It doesnā€™t even come close to the current flagships. However, Huaweiā€™s Mate 60 Pro+ still holds the number 2 sport in DxOMarkā€™s camera ranking. And with the new Pura 70 Ultra, the company has pushed photography to the next level.

It features a motorized retractable camera on the back, which is a first of its kind. This designĀ enables the camera toĀ stay flush with the back when the camera is not in use. The company has even integrated multiple camera technologies inside the phone.

For example, the 50 MP 1-inch sensor of the Pura 70 Ultra can capture moving vehicles at speeds of up to 186 mph (300 km/h). And even though the performance of the Kirin 9010 isnā€™tĀ great, Huaweiā€™s HarmonyOS isĀ veryĀ optimized. That means it should be able to handle day-to-day apps just fine.
