Google Pixel 9 series has been leaking a lot lately, and Google does not seem to be bothered. Another day, another set of details for the upcoming Google smartphones emerged. Today, new details come and reveal what to expect from the entire Pixel 9 lineup. In case you don’t know, the lineup will be composed of the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Today, all non-foldable devices have details about software versions, storage, batteries, and charging.
Google Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pro XL Details Have Been Revealed
We start with one surprise related to the software version. The new round of rumors suggests that the Pixel 9 family will launch running Android 14 instead of Android 15. It breaks the long tradition of new Pixel devices serving to debut newer Android versions.
If we consider that the Pixel lineup is launching a bit earlier than the usual October release, then it sounds like Android 15 won’t be ready for them at all. Considering this, we believe that the previously expected stable release for Android 15 on August 13 shouldn’t happen at all. The OS may arrive in August, but a bit later than the Pixel series release. Last year, Android 14 was also delayed, and apparently, Android 15 won’t be finished by the end of August.
Pixel 9 series’ Storage Details
The Google Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL will all start at 128 GB of Internal Storage. The Pixel 9 will come with 12 GB of RAM, while the Pros will get up to 16GB of RAM. The Pixel 9 will be offered with 256 GB. The Pro variants will get 256 GB, 512 GB, or 1 TB of Internal Storage. The charging speeds for the new devices have also been improved when compared to their predecessors. The Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro are advertised to charge to 55% in 30 minutes. The Pixel 9 Pro XL, on the other hand, will go up to 70% in the same period.

New Charging Speed and Camera Design
All the numbers will be achieved with a Google 45W USB-C charger, which will be made available when they launch. Currently, Google only sells a 30W USB-C Charger. The new charger confirms that some of the Pixel phones will be able to go up to 45W charger. The Pixel 9 Pro XL will have a large 5,060 mAh, which is a small 10 mAh increment over the Pixel 8 Pro. For reference, the Pixel 8 Pro was able to charge 50% in just 30 minutes with its 30W USB-C charger. Google will also promise “24 hours of battery life” for all models, it can rise to 100 hours in the Extreme Battery Saver Mode.
The Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold will come with a 4,560 mAh battery split with the dual-cell technology (1,183 + 3377 mAh). This is a great number considering the challenges in a foldable smartphone. It should provide enough energy to keep the phone running throughout the day even with heavy usage. Given the enhanced brightness and larger screen, the robust battery capacity is a crucial feature.
In common, the regular Pixel smartphones will ditch the visor design for the rear camera for a more traditional centered camera island. The Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold, on the other hand, will leave completely the traditional design of the Pixel series for obvious reasons. There is no way to fit a camera island in the center as the phone folds in two parts. It has a rectangular camera island that comprises two holes for the smartphone’s cameras.
Tensor G4
All Pixel 9 series smartphones will be powered by the Google Tensor G4. The new chipset is based on the 4nm architecture and promises great improvements in performance and efficiency. It won’t be on par with current flagship chipsets, but Google is taking an alternative route over the competitors. There are still two weeks ahead of the Pixel 9 series release, and we certainly expect more leaks to come.
