HMD Announces Entry in China


HMD Global took responsibility for Nokia in 2016. For years, HMD has focused on the Nokia branding. However recently their strategy has changed and now the company is more focused on its branding. HMD has launched several phones globally targeting different markets. Now it’s time for the Chinese market to get HMD-branded phones.

Previously, we saw the debut of HMD-branded phones in India. The Crest series was specifically designed for the Indian consumers. Additionally, the marketing campaign was also on point. Now the company is after the biggest smartphone market.

The report comes from HMD News revealing that HMD has officially announced its arrival in China. The company posted on its Chinese social media accounts about their arrival. The announcement was made on the newly created social media accounts with HMD branding. However, the exact details of the smartphones were not exposed. It is also worth noting that Nokia’s social media accounts are still present.  HMD phones launched in China will likely differ from the global ones. We have seen a similar approach in other markets. Hence, it will be interesting to see the approach of the company in China.

Currently, the brand is experimenting with various phones. For example, they recently announced the HMD Skyline which revives the iconic design of Nokia Lumia phones. It is also expected that HMD will launch another phone dubbed Hyper which will also bring the Lumia-inspired design language and some more highlights. Moreover, the company has also launched some cost-efficient phones such as the HMD Pulse series. To make its presence in China, HMD must bring high value to money phones.
