Despite these challenges, Samsung is preparing for a comeback. According to a report from The Elec, the company is planning to release a smartphone with a rollable display in 2025. This device would feature a screen that can expand and contract based on user needs, reaching a maximum size of 12.4 inches when fully unrolled. Additionally, the phone could have a hidden under-display camera. Similar to what was seen in previous Z Fold models.
This rollable display concept isn’t entirely new. Samsung patented this technology three years ago, and rumors about its development have been circulating since mid-2023. Samsung’s Vice President of Display, Chung Yi, hinted at rollable screens about a month ago. The company also showcased prototypes at the Mobile World Congress in February. Signaling that it’s working hard on this new innovation.
Samsung’s future in the foldable market looks promising, with this new rollable display potentially marking a major step forward. If the launch goes as planned, the device could be introduced at the summer Galaxy Unpacked event in 2025, where Samsung typically reveals its latest foldables. It may even debut alongside the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Galaxy Z Flip7, signaling a new era for Samsung as it aims to regain its leadership in the competitive foldable phone market.
