MediaTek Dimensity 9400 GPU Shows 10% Improvement on Geekbench

MediaTek has been getting a lot of attention lately, especially for its upcoming Dimensity 9400 processor. The chipset recently set a new record for the highest score on AnTuTu for an Android phone. Now, the GPU has been tested on Geekbench, sparking even more excitement. However, some users hoping for a big upgrade might be disappointed by the results.

Dimensity 9400’s Immortalis-G925 MP12 GPU Shows Incremental Upgrade in Geekbench

The Dimensity 9400’s GPU, the Arm Immortalis-G925 MP12, scored 16,257 points in Geekbench’s OpenCL benchmark. While this is higher than the Dimensity 9300, the increase is only 10%. ARM has called the Immortalis-G925 the “highest performing, most efficient GPU” so far, but the benchmark results suggest that the performance boost may not be as big as expected.

However, it’s important to consider that benchmarks don’t always tell the whole story. Geekbench is a good starting point to evaluate performance, but it doesn’t fully reflect real-world use. A previous leak hints that the Immortalis-G925 might perform much better in actual use. The Dimensity 9400 could even beat the Apple A18 Pro in the GFXBench Aztec 1440p off-screen Vulkan benchmark.

The Dimensity 9400 could still perform well in real-world gaming and other demanding tasks, showing its true power beyond synthetic benchmarks. A quick look at the Immortalis-G925’s basic specs reveals its potential. With 12 compute units and a peak clock speed of 1.62 GHz, it’s one of the fastest smartphone GPUs available. Smartphone enthusiasts have been waiting for a proper upgrade on MediaTek GPUs. After all, the company has been lagging behind Qualcomm and its Adreno GPUs.

Also, the benchmark tests were run on an unreleased Vivo X200 series phone, which may not have been fully optimized for the Dimensity 9400 yet. The official launch is on October 9th, which should give us a clearer picture of how the Immortalis-G925 performs in real-world conditions. For now, it’s best not to judge the chip-based only on the Geekbench results.
