POCO X7 will feature Sony’s 50MP IMX882 main camera

The POCO X7 series is shaping up to be an exciting release, with early leaks confirming that the POCO X7 will largely mirror the Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G. While many of the core features will remain the same, one notable difference is the camera setup. In a bid to keep the POCO X7 more affordable, Xiaomi has opted to replace the 200MP Samsung ISOCELL HP3 sensor found in the Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G with a 50MP Sony IMX882 sensor in the POCO X7. This aligns with Xiaomi’s typical strategy of balancing cost and performance across its various sub-brands.

POCO X7 is a Rebadged Redmi Note 14 Pro with a New Camera Inside

Though the official launch date for the POCO X7 is still under wraps, the smartphone’s specifications have begun to surface. Both the POCO X7 and Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G share the internal code name “malachite”. The POCO X7 will boast the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Ultra chipset. This is a shift from earlier leaks suggesting the use of the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 for these devices. While the Pro+ models of the Redmi series will feature Qualcomm processors the Pro variants will rely on MediaTek chipsets. It will continue the company’s tradition of differentiating its models based on performance tiers.

The upgrade from the POCO X6 5G’s processor to the Dimensity 7300 Ultra represents a significant performance boost, further enhancing the overall user experience. Despite the downgrade in camera resolution, this cost-saving decision is expected to make the POCO X7 an attractive, budget-friendly option without sacrificing too much in terms of power or functionality. With these specs, the POCO X7 aims to offer solid mid-range performance at a competitive price point.

Another notable change in the POCO X7 is its 50MP main camera, following POCO’s established strategy of prioritizing performance while keeping costs low. Typically, POCO devices focus less on camera quality, opting instead for a balance between functionality and affordability. Hence, the POCO X7 is no exception. It will feature a Sony IMX882 camera sensor, which is also present in the Chinese version of the Redmi Note 14 Pro. Meanwhile, the global versions of the Redmi Note 14 Pro series will come equipped with a 200MP Samsung ISOCELL HP3 sensor. It offers significantly higher camera resolution for markets outside of China. This difference highlights POCO’s approach of scaling down camera specs to provide a more cost-effective option.
