Snapdragon 8 Elite Outperforms Apple A18 Pro in Benchmark Tests

Snapdragon 8 Elite

At the Snapdragon Summit 2024, Qualcomm unveiled its most powerful chipset yet—the Snapdragon 8 Elite. This flagship System-on-Chip (SoC) boasts a cutting-edge 2+6 microarchitecture featuring Qualcomm’s Oryon CPUs. The setup includes two high-performance Prime cores clocked at 4.32 GHz and four Performance cores running at 3.53 GHz, delivering a significant leap in power and efficiency.

Snapdragon 8 Elite: Qualcomm’s Powerhouse Outpaces Apple A18 Pro

Compared to its predecessor, the Snapdragon 8 Elite offers a 45% boost in CPU performance in both single and multi-threaded tasks, along with a 44% improvement in power efficiency. The new chipset also delivers 40% faster GPU performance, 40% higher power efficiency, and a 35% increase in ray-tracing capabilities. This substantial performance enhancement is largely due to Qualcomm’s use of TSMC’s advanced 3nm process technology, which enables better power management and more transistors in a smaller space.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite reference device comes equipped with impressive hardware specifications, including a 6.8-inch WFHD+ AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate, 24GB of LPDDR5x RAM running at speeds up to 4.8Gbps, 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage, and a 4167mAh battery. Qualcomm shared benchmark results from several performance tests, showcasing the chip’s dominance in the smartphone market.

AnTuTu Benchmark 10

On the AnTuTu 10 benchmark, the Snapdragon 8 Elite reached an astonishing 3,014,075 points, far surpassing competing devices. For comparison, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3-powered Vivo X100 Pro scored 2.1 million points. And the Dimensity 9400-powered Vivo X200 Pro managed 2.99 million points. While close, the Snapdragon 8 Elite outshines them with a noticeable margin.

Geekbench 6 Benchmarks

According to Fonearena, in Geekbench 6’s Single-Core tests, the Snapdragon 8 Elite falls slightly behind Apple’s A18 Pro chip in the iPhone 16 Pro Max and iPhone 16 Plus. However, in the multi-core tests, Qualcomm’s chipset comes out on top. Surpassing the A18 Pro and leaving other Android competitors far behind.

Interestingly, Qualcomm also shared that an overclocked version of the Snapdragon 8 Elite beats the A18 Pro in single-core performance as well. Solidifying its position as a top contender in both CPU and GPU power.

GPU Benchmarks and Performance

In GPU tests, the Snapdragon 8 Elite shines. In GFXBench Aztec Ruins Vulkan (1440p), it hits 125 frames per second (fps), and 349 fps in 1080p. Also, in 3DMark WildLife Extreme, it scores 43 fps, showcasing its prowess in gaming and graphical tasks.

Qualcomm also announced that devices featuring the Snapdragon 8 Elite will begin shipping soon. The Xiaomi 15 series will be the first to launch, followed by iQOO 13, OnePlus 13, and other flagship models from brands like Realme, ASUS, Nubia, and Vivo throughout November and December.
