Google Messages Reintroduces Dual SIM RCS: What You Need to Know

Google Messages

Google Messages is the default messaging app on many top Android phones today. Google has been a big supporter of RCS (Rich Communication Services), which brings advanced messaging features similar to iMessage, like typing indicators, read receipts, and high-quality image sharing. However, Google Messages users with dual SIM phones haven’t fully enjoyed these RCS features, which only worked on one SIM. In January, we saw hints of dual SIM RCS support finally coming, but months passed with no updates. In August, another report suggested the rollout had started, and now, recent user reports indicate that dual SIM RCS support may indeed be arriving.

Beta Users Report Dual SIM RCS SupportGoogle Messages

Two Reddit users in Canada and another in Pakistan report that they now have dual SIM RCS support on Google Messages version 20241018_01_RC00 beta. A Galaxy S24 Ultra user in the United States has also reported the feature appearing on their device. This feature allows users to enjoy RCS features on both SIMs, making it easier to send messages with rich features across different numbers without needing to switch apps or settings. For now, only users with the beta version of Google Messages have seen the feature, which may mean Google is still testing it.

This isn’t the first time dual SIM RCS has shown up in the beta app. In the past, the feature appeared briefly but was quickly removed. Hopefully, this time it’s here to stay, and Google will eventually bring it to all Google Messages users.

Why the Long Wait?Google Messages

Google hasn’t shared much information about dual SIM RCS in Google Messages, so the delay has been puzzling. The long wait suggests that Google might still be working on fixing bugs or other issues, as the feature first appeared over 10 months ago. In the meantime, users who want to try it can sideload the latest beta version from APKMirror, though there’s no guarantee it will work on all devices.

Many users on Reddit have voiced frustration over the slow rollout, hoping Google will soon make dual SIM RCS available to everyone, not just those using the beta app. Until then, the full rollout of dual SIM RCS remains uncertain.
