A new survey highlights a growing frustration among European adults: tech failures disrupting key moments in life. Commissioned by HONOR to mark the launch of the Magic V3 smartphone, the survey reveals that over three-quarters (76%) of respondents have experienced a “tech fail” at a critical time. From job interviews to weddings, these mishaps are causing stress when it matters most.

When Tech Fails: How to Avoid Ruining Life’s Key Events

Among the 9,000 adults surveyed, one-third worry that tech issues—like lost GPS signals or drained batteries—could spoil significant milestones. The most dreaded tech glitch? A phone battery dying at the worst possible time. Nearly half of the respondents (42%) say that running out of battery during important events like the birth of a child, a crucial interview, or even a first date would be incredibly stressful.

Common Tech Glitches Causing Anxiety

Video calls are another source of worry. Almost half (49%) feel anxious about muting their microphone or turning off the camera in case others can still see or hear them. Meanwhile, 41% admit to having said or done something embarrassing during a video call, thinking they were “off-camera” or on mute.

The survey found that everyday tech mishaps are very common. Accidental pocket-dialing was reported by 36% of respondents. Another 35% have forgotten a charger while traveling, and 27% have cracked their phone screen. Some of these issues have caused serious embarrassment. About 11% admitted to sending a flirty message to the wrong person, and 7% confessed to accidentally sending a suggestive photo to the wrong recipient.

A Call for More Reliable Technology

For many, these frustrations highlight the need for reliable devices that won’t fail during life’s big moments. Most respondents emphasized that long battery life is a must, with 89% saying it’s a top priority when choosing a phone. Additionally, 63% would pay more for a device that’s durable enough to withstand life’s demands.

To bring attention to the impact of unreliable tech, HONOR has launched a playful music video parody of the classic song “(I Just) Died in Your Arms Tonight.” The video follows a young person trying to find love while navigating humorous tech mishaps.

“People need dependable tech for life’s important moments,” said Avikar Jolly, Chief Marketing Officer for HONOR Europe. “Whether it’s dating or career moves, a smartphone with lasting battery, strong connectivity, and resilience can make a huge difference.”

The company’s new Magic V3 smartphone is designed to meet these demands. With extended battery life, high performance, and durability. Helping users feel confident that their tech won’t let them down.
