Huawei has officially launched the Mate X6, a foldable smartphone that measures under 5 mm in thickness when unfolded. This model presents significant enhancements over its predecessor, featuring slightly larger displays, an updated camera system, and the in-house HarmonyOS Next operating system pre-installed.
Huawei Mate X6 – A new Folding Display
In line with Huawei’s recent practices, the specific chipset powering the Mate X6 has not been disclosed. However, it is anticipated to utilize the Kirin 9100, a 6nm platform. While this chipset represents an improvement over previous iterations, it may not match the performance levels of current flagship processors.
The Huawei Mate X6 boasts a foldable 7.93-inch LTPO display with a near 1:1 aspect ratio and a sharp resolution of 2,440 x 2,240 pixels. This screen supports a variable refresh rate ranging from 1 Hz to 120 Hz, offers up to 1,800 nits of peak brightness, and can display over 1 billion colors for vivid visuals. On the outside, the cover display features a 6.45-inch LTPO OLED panel with a 1080p resolution. It matches the foldable screen’s 1-120 Hz refresh rate but surpasses it in brightness, reaching an impressive 2,500 nits.
Powerful Cameras and Sleek Profile
The Huawei Mate X6 features a quad-camera setup on the back, with three lenses borrowed from other Huawei devices. The 50 MP main camera, with its variable f/1.4-f/4.0 aperture, comes from the Pura 70 Pro+. A 48 MP telephoto lens with a 90 mm focal length and up to 4x optical zoom is sourced from the Mate 60 Pro, while the 40 MP ultra-wide camera with autofocus is also found on the Pura 70 Ultra. The fourth camera is a hyperspectral sensor capable of capturing over 1.5 million colors. This sensor enhances the performance of the other cameras by improving color accuracy through Huawei’s XD Fusion engine.
The Huawei Mate X6 stands out with its ultra-thin 4.3 mm profile when unfolded, though it is slightly heavier than the Mate X5 at 239 grams. The phone offers two battery options: a 5,110 mAh capacity for the standard version and a larger 5,200 mAh battery for the 16 GB RAM variant. Charging is efficient, with 66W wired support. The phone also has 50W wireless charging and 7.5W reverse wireless capabilities for powering other devices.

Improved Design
The Huawei Mate X6 brings several significant upgrades. It features an improved antenna for better connectivity and supports dual-satellite communication via China’s Beidou and Tiantong systems. To manage heat, it includes a cutting-edge cooling system with a vapor chamber, liquid cooling, and graphite layers. The cover screen is protected by second-gen Kunlun Glass, ensuring durability.
Its redesigned hinge, made from rocket-grade steel, is smoother to operate and more robust. The phone also boasts an IPX8 water resistance rating, allowing the cover screen to function even underwater. These enhancements make the Mate X6 more durable and user-friendly.
