MediaTek has launched the Dimensity 8400, a mid-range chip with impressive performance. Despite its category, it matches last year’s flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy. In the Geekbench 6 multi-threaded test, the Dimensity 8400 scored 6722 points, edging out the 6672 points of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.

Strong Performance with Efficient Design

As reported by ITHome, the Dimensity 8400 features eight Arm Cortex-A725 cores. It has one core running at 3.25 GHz, three at 3.0 GHz, and four at 2.1 GHz. The chip includes a doubled L2 cache and a 50% larger L3 cache for faster processing.

Energy efficiency is a key focus. Compared to the Dimensity 8300, it delivers the same performance while using 44% less power. In gaming, it consumes 24% less power yet performs better.

Enhanced Graphics and AI

The chip includes the Arm Immortalis G720 MC7 GPU, which runs at 1.3 GHz. This GPU supports real-time ray tracing, a feature usually found in high-end chips. It provides 24% better performance and uses 42% less power than its predecessor.

For AI tasks, the Dimensity 8400 has the NPU 880 neural processor. This processor is 54% faster than the previous version, improving AI-based features and performance.

Redmi Turbo 4 to Debut the Dimensity 8400

The first smartphone powered by the Dimensity 8400 will be the Redmi Turbo 4, scheduled for release in 2025. This device will feature a 6500 mAh battery and a high-resolution 1.5K display, promising a balanced combination of performance and endurance.
