Samsung Galaxy Updates End For 11 Smartphones

Nowadays, Samsung is one of the best Android OEMs when it comes to software support. The company is offering up to seven years of major software version updates and security patches to some of its smartphones. And this is not only limited to the costlier flagships. There are even mid-range smartphones getting the same treatment like the recently-released Samsung Galaxy A16 5G.

Samsung Galaxy updates end

That’s a notable commitment with its users, and a great evolution if we look back to the days of TouchWiz when updates were uncertain. To put things in perspective, the recently released Samsung Galaxy S25 Quartet will receive seven years of updates, having support until 2032. We don’t even know if users will be able to keep their smartphones for so long, but the software support is assured.

However, even for long-term support, the end is inevitable. This year, some Samsung Galaxy smartphones will see their fate and will no longer receive One UI updates. In the list below, we will see which smartphones will lose support in 2025:

  • Samsung Galaxy A02s
  • Samsung Galaxy A12
  • Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G
  • Samsung Galaxy S20 FE
  • Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G
  • Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra
  • Samsung Galaxy S20+ 5G
  • Samsung Galaxy S20+
  • Samsung Galaxy S20 5G
  • Samsung Galaxy S20
  • Samsung Galaxy W21 5G (Re-branded version of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 5G in China)

These smartphones are not so old if we have in mind the software support of the latest flagships. Most of them launched around 2020, but back then, Samsung was still offering one or two updates for smartphones, with the flagships being the exception. The Samsung Galaxy A02s, A12, and W21 5G reached the end of support at the end of January 2025. However, the Galaxy S20 series still has more time when it comes to security patches.

With the end of software support, it may be a good time to consider a new smartphone. After all, having an outdated device as a daily driver means you will soon face incompatibility with apps and some services. Moreover, the lack of security patches can leave you vulnerable to malware. If you’re looking for a new smartphone, you can check three (1, 2, 3) comprehensive lists with some interesting devices.
