Honor Alpha Plan – A New Shift into AI
Global tech brand HONOR has unveiled the HONOR ALPHA PLAN, a new strategy to shift from making smartphones to becoming a top AI-powered device company. This three-step plan outlines how HONOR will drive the future of smart technology and urges the industry to build an open system that benefits everyone.
“It is clear that the AI revolution will reshape the paradigm of the device industry – completely transforming our productivity, our society, and even our culture more than ever before,” said James Li, CEO of HONOR. “I am calling on all of us to unite together to address the challenges – as well as the many opportunities – of AI technology. The name HONOR ALPHA PLAN was chosen for its deep meaning. “Alpha,” the first letter of the Greek alphabet, represents HONOR’s drive for top-tier technology. Also, the Chinese character for “human” (人) appears where the stroke connects in the lowercase letter “α”. It reflects HONOR’s focus on human-centered innovation. This mix of Eastern and Western influences captures HONOR’s global goals and commitment to creating value for users worldwide.
The plan has three stages. First, HONOR will develop an advanced AI-driven smartphone. It will work with partners to push tech boundaries in the new AI age. Second, it will expand its AI ecosystem beyond devices. Finally, in the age of advanced AI, HONOR aims to unlock human potential and redefine how technology shapes society.
The key to this transformation is the smart AI-powered phone in the first stage. Its goal is to help people reach their full potential. HONOR highlighted this cutting-edge AI technology during its keynote speech.
AI Technology for the New Era
HONOR took the wraps of the world’s first GUI-based personal mobile AI agent. In a tech demo with Google Cloud and Qualcomm Technologies, HONOR showed how its AI agent can book a table through a third-party service. It does the job considering calendar appointments and traffic conditions. The brand plans to bring this AI experience to global markets soon.
Smarter Mobile Photography with AiMAGE
Furthermore, we saw the company’s new AiMAGE. As the name suggests, it’s a new AI-powered imaging technology. AiMAGE runs on the AI Kernel, the first system to support both device and cloud-based AI models.
- On-device AI: Uses a 1.3 billion parameter model to improve image clarity by 50%.
- Cloud AI: Runs a larger 12.4 billion parameter model to enhance telephoto shots with more detail.
HONOR is also working with partners like Google Cloud to add more AI-powered features. One of these, AI Upscale, will restore old portraits and will first launch on the HONOR Magic7 series in March, powered by the Snapdragon® 8 Elite Mobile Platform.
Next-Level File Sharing & AI Security
HONOR has introduced the first-ever all-ecosystem file-sharing technology, allowing ultra-fast transfers between iOS and Android devices. Additionally, AI Deepfake detection will soon be available on HONOR’s latest flagship and foldable phones worldwide, adding an extra layer of security.

“As we move into the physical AI era, we need to open our industry boundaries and co-create a new paradigm for the AI ecosystem,” Li said. To reach the second step of its strategic plan, HONOR calls on the industry to open up its AI capabilities for a wider range of devices, enabling seamless collaboration as HONOR co-creates a value-sharing ecosystem with global partners. As a testament to its commitment, HONOR announced today that it will invest more than USD 10 billion over the next five years to fund this endeavor.
The company has bold plans for AI, and this certainly was one of the biggest targets at MWC. However, the Alpha Plan also has other meanings besides AI. One of its pillars is the consumer-centric approach, and Honor decided to show its commitment to consumers by offering long-term software support.
7+7 Years of OS and Security Updates for Honor Devices
During the Keynote, Honor revealed another part of its Alpha Plan. The emphasis on consumers will bring long-term software support for future Magic devices. The brand will offer seven years of Android OS and Security Updates for the Magic series. Honor is the latest to join this trend of offering multiple years of software updates for its flagships. Interestingly, this is one of the most impressive supports with a wide window that will last for 7 years.
The upcoming Honor Magic flagships will certainly come with Android 15 and MagicOS 9 running atop. With long-term support, users can expect updates up to Android 22 (considering the sequence). The security updates will also come simultaneously for the next seven years.
