Your Pixel Watch Just Got Smarter: Wear OS 5.1’s Latest Rollout

Pixel Watch

Google is rolling out Wear OS 5.1, based on Android 15, to the Pixel Watch 2 and Pixel Watch 3. However, this update is currently limited to the Bluetooth/Wi-Fi models of these watches.

Limited RolloutPixel Watch

As of now, only the non-LTE versions of the Pixel Watch 2 and Pixel Watch 3 are receiving the update. LTE models and the original Pixel Watch are not included yet.

Users can manually trigger the update by going to the update screen and tapping repeatedly to check for new software. Google is releasing manual install images only for these two models at this stage.

Future Availability

Google confirms that Wear OS 5.1 will eventually roll out to all generations of Pixel Watches. The update versions are:

  • Pixel Watch 1: BP1A.250305.019.W2
  • Pixel Watch 2 & 3: BP1A.250305.019.W3

The rollout will continue over the next few weeks in different phases. The timing depends on the carrier and device model.

New Features in Wear OS 5.1

The update brings new health-focused features, improved media controls, and system optimizations.

  • Pixel Watch 3:
    • Loss of Pulse Detection (Available only in the US).
    • Menstrual Health Support, rolling out via an on-watch Fitbit app update.
  • Pixel Watch 2:
    • Auto Bedtime Mode, which automatically adjusts settings to reduce distractions at night.
  • All Pixel Watch models:
    • A new step count algorithm for better activity tracking.
    • Improved media controls, allowing easier control of YouTube Music podcasts and other audio content.

Developer Features in Wear OS 5.1Pixel Watch

The update also introduces new tools for app developers:

  • Credential Manager Support: A unified login system that supports passwords, passkeys, and Google Sign-In.
  • Watch Speaker Playback: If a watch supports media playback through its speaker, users can choose it as an output option. However, this feature may depend on the device, as speakers can drain the battery.

Update Schedule

  • The next major update is planned for June 2025.
  • After that, Google will release quarterly updates.
  • This is the first update since November 2024.
