Samsung brought back the Edge series this year presenting the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge. The smartphone is yet to actually hit the shelves. Despite this name, it has nothing to do with the old Edge smartphones with big curved edges adding extra functionality. Instead, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge focus on bringing a sleek profile with the same flagship pedigree as the other devices in the family. The device is thinner than its siblings, and camera ahead of Apple’s rumored iPhone 17 Air which will also focus on being thin. According to a new leak, Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 Air will also come as a super compact smartphone, but some things like the camera bump will still affect the phone’s overall look.
iPhone 17 Air Camera Bump Thickness Revealed
Most of the rumors have been pointing Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 Air with a 5.5 mm thickness. We all know that this probably wasn’t taking the camera bump into account. This is something that most of the smartphone makers can’t fight with. The camera module protrudes over the rear and affects the overall thickness. The iPhone 17 Air won’t be an exception to thsi rule.
A new leak emerged today and lists the actual thickness of the camera bump. According to it, it will go up to 4mm over the phone’s rear. So, considering the rumored 5.5mm thickness for the phone’s chassis, then the iPhone 17 Air will be 9.5 mm thick with the camera bump. That may not be a problem for some users, especial if they are used to this design choice. However, if you put the smartphone on a case that protects the bump, then it could end up being a little more thick.
Alleged Specifications
The iPhone 17 Air will come with just one rear camera. We expect a powerful module to justify this choice. It will allegedly include a large 6.9-inch LTPO OLED screen like the iPhone 17 Pro Max. It is also said to sport a battery between 3,000 mAh and 4,000 mAh. The capacity may disappoint, but that should be one of the compromises made to achieve the smartphone thiness.
The iPhone 17 Air is Apple’s new attempt to push a new variant in the smartphone market. The device’s actual launch window is yet to be confirmed. If it does come this year like the rumors say, then this year will be one with the most iPhones being released. We had the iPhone 16e, and the iPhone 17 series will come in September with four new smartphones. Five if you consider the iPhone 17 Air. In the end, 2025 may bring a total of 6 iPhones.
