Oneplus quietly updated their Facebook profile picture to show an update to Snapdragon 801 last night.
One of the first official details of the OnePlus One phone was that it would use a Snapdragon 800 processor. The choice upset a few fans, but OnePlus defended the option as being with arguments that the 800 is more than powerful enough and that waiting for a different processor could put back the shipping date of the first phone.
All those arguments have been thrown over board now though as the phone will have a Snapdragon 801 processor instead. The updated to 801 will mean the Oneplus One could have a faster clock speed and much faster graphics than it would have had.
Gizchina News of the week
The update has come as a welcome surprise by many fans, we will keep a look out for an official explanation from OnePlus for the change of heart.

At last they seem to have seen sense, either that or it was a deliberate lie to gauge people’s reaction before deciding on the final specification. Either way this phone has started getting interesting again, who knows they may even make s few more changes!
A few more changes is what worries me. When is this phone going to ship if things keep changing ?
Agree, have already built up a ridiculous amount of hype……don’t think I’ll continue waiting any longer.
i do agree as well. I suspect is june-oct release.
Not waiting. getting OPPO find 7.
Sad but true, Oneplus is not a leading brand that many ppl will wait or Q for.
this change just swaps one part for a pin compatible replacement. i don’t think it’s a major delay…
the bigger question is whether the device will have dual SIMs or not. if so, then it’s clear that they designed for the 801 from the start, since the 800 doesn’t support dual SIMs.
If I were One+ I would release with the 800 or 801 immediately perhaps a couple thousand units a month just enough to satisfy those that get their hands on a unit while peaking the interest of those who cannot get one.
Now while this is going on i’ll be working on a Summer KitKat enabled 4G LTE Octa Core release with zero hype and let that flagship unit speak for itself and do that one in big numbers to allow everyone to experience the One+ opinion of what a non-compromising unit would be.
Dual Sim Snapdragon flagship phones are always a heavenly treat for the money you pay!!!..
@Gizchina:disqus : Any idea why most of the prominent international phone manufactures still stick to single sim flagship phones even though a dual sim phone can be used as a single sim phone…(not the opposite..:P) ?
