For a company usually ahead of the game, Mediatek are doing a poor job of jumping on board the LTE bandwagon, but as the faster data service becomes more mainstream in China manufacturers are already hinting at the MTK LTE phones.
4G LTE phones on sale in China at the moment are all using versions of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processors, but it won’t be long before LTE chips from rivals Mediatek will be available to manufactures.
In fact, factories in China have already been playing around with LTE options from Mediatek including modified versions of the octacore MT6592, the all new MT6591 hexacore and the next generation MT6595!
Development of these new phones is now coming to a close as leaks of various models have been discovered! Here are just a few of the LTE phones we can expect from China in the coming months.
ZTE Qing Yang 2
Being a manufacturing giant, ZTE has the buying power to get the latest hardware to play with ahead of the competition. The ZTE Qing Yang 2 is the first ZTE branded phone rumoured to have a MTK platform while offering LTE.
Sources say the ZTE will use a MT6592 octacore processor adapted with the MT6290 baseband chip to bring 4G LTE to the spec list. The phone is also believed to offer a 5-inch 720p LTPS display, 2GB RAM, 5 mega-pixel front camera, 8 mega-pixel rear, 16GB internal memory, 2300mAh battery and dual-SIM support.
Pricing is though to be low with a starting price of only 1699 Yuan ($272).
DOOV S2L
DOOV (another member of the BBK phone family which includes Vivo, Oppo and OnePlus) are set to release an updated version of the DOOV S2. This new DOOV S2L is believed to get a new mid-range LTE processor based on the quad-core MT6582 SoC.
Gizchina News of the week
The S2L will get the same 1GB RAM, 8GB memory, 2000mAh battery and 5-inch 720p display as the current version but receive an update to Android 4.4 Kitkat. For those of you who don’t know, the DOOV S2L is a camera centric phone with 5 mega-pixel front, 8 mega-pixel rear and special camera features.
Meizu
Meizu have long been rumoured to release an LTE device running a Mediatek processor. The Meizu phone is thought to get the next generation MT6595 chipset though and run the latest version of Flyme based on Android 4.4 Kitkat.
A release date for the new LTE Meizu could be as early as August, and although we have no solid evidence, we believe the new phone will be based on the current MX3 with a lower price tag.
iNew V8
iNew will be among the first to release an LTE phone with the iNew V8. The iNew V8 is currently the only phone on the list which has had as near an official confirmation as currently possible.
The V8 also happens to be a Oppo N1 clone with 5.5-inch display, 2GB RAM, dual SIM, 13 mega-pixel rotation camera and rear touch panel.
Other Mediatek LTE phones
Zopo, Elephone, Huawei, THL, TCL and JiaYu will also be preparing their jump to LTE once Mediatek have the goods to offer, and we can expect something from Xiaomi towards the end of the year.
Which Mediatek LTE phones would you like to see launch?

This DOOV looks like a 1+1 Clone, but it’s quite nice. So let me think if I really undersant? A time ago I Thought the MTK6595 will be the first 4G MTK Phone, and maybe their next launches. But now it’s really we can see the implementation of 4G on old chips? Like MTK6582 and MTK6592 (2013 chips) That will be nice! See 4G in affordable phones like iNew V3. So is that andi?
The MT6592 can use LTE with the correct hardware. So we won’t see any current MT6592 phones updates to LTE using firmware, but we might see old faves upgraded to LTE sooner rather than later.
DOOV is owend my the same parent company as OnePlus so it isn’t all that strange they look similar.
That’s what I mean, if the next MTK6592 come with hardware 4G implementation so we can see a lot of companies, upgrading their phones, launching another versions with 4G support. The same thing we see when the MTK6589T come out.
I’d love to see Zopo design an entirely newly designed flagship built on an aluminium alloy frame running kitkat on the MTK 6595
This is bad news for us china phone lovers! They recycle MT6582 and MT6592….. Now we are stuck with slow GPU’s again until 2015 🙁
MT6595 has more powerful GPU (graphics). But no, they do the same shit like MT6589 and MT6589T. More money $$$ for Mediatek and stuttering games for us consumers till 2015…. Even Snapdragon 400 GPU (Xiami Hongmi 1S, Moto G) is playing games smoother than Mediatek MT6592.
A quad Mali 450 is slow? okay…
MTK6592’s GPU is more than capable of playing most games easily.
I’d say all …
6592 phones have Mali 450, 6589T and 6589 phones have Mali 400.
big diference.
6589T and 6589 have Powervr SGX 544 GPU with one single core, both clocked differently in each version, like 6589T is a Overclocked version of MTK6589 the GPU follows the same principle. Mali 400 MP2 (Dual-Core) is present in some MTK6582.
looking for a 4g LTE phone around 250-300 euros, any suggestion ? Thanks !!!
Moto G lte
I bought the ZTE Blade Apex 2 (4G/LTE). Its price in Italy is just € 129,90 (about U$D 176). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ifp5b2bqtCM
