A couple of days back, India saw the first Xiaomi sale, with the Mi3 being made available for purchase via Flipkart. What followed wasn’t really surprising, but newsworthy perhaps — Flipkart ran out of its Xiaomi Mi3 stock in under 40 minutes.
Xiaomi was quick to report this sellout on its social feeds, which naturally resulted in quite a lot of hype (if what existed previously wasn’t enough). However, what was peculiar was that the company gave no numbers; we do not know if 1,000 or 5,000 or 7,000 units of the Mi3 were sold in that period of 38 minutes and 50 seconds.
Gizchina News of the week
With over a hundred thousand people having registered to buy the phone, this wasn’t really surprising. BGR India claims to have deeper insight on the matter, with info on the elusive number (of devices) as well. According to the Indian wing of Boy Genius Report, Flipkart and Xiaomi put up less than 10,000 Mi3 units on sale on the 22nd of July.
We don’t know if this was just to test how deep the waters are, or that’s what the production facilities allowed Xiaomi. Regardless, we hope to see better availability of the device in India, something that could pave the way for Xiaomi’s future in the country.
For those who registered, but could not purchase the device due to lack of stock, Xiaomi and Flipkart have decided to allow purchase without having to register again. However, new buyers who haven’t registered previously will have to complete the formalities, before the device goes on sale again on the 29th of July.

foolish after registering still saying register for next sale
They seem to have imported 10400 units in first 22nd July sale and now again same number of handsets for 29th July sale.

10,000 for sale, 400 for warranty claims, seems about right.
