There’s no doubt about the fact that 2014 is the year of phablets. Huawei’s been doing that for a while now, and the company hasn’t been shy letting the world know about its expertise in this department.
Unveiled today was the Ascend Mate 7, the latest large screen device from the popular lineup of phablets from Huawei. Unlike most flagships of today, the Ascend Mate series was among the first ones to offer large screen fun on a budget. The Ascend Mate 7, however, isn’t really a budget phablet with prices starting at 499 Euros.
Gizchina News of the week

The Ascend Mate 7 is in for a launch this quarter in Europe. As you can see in the specs table above, the Ascend Mate 7 comes in two sets of configurations: one with 16GB storage, 2GB RAM and the other, with 32GB storage and 3GB RAM. At launch, these variants are set to cost 499 Euros and 599 Euros respectively, which perhaps is a tad too much for Huawei to ask from a device like the Ascend Mate 7.
Previous Ascend Mate models have had the capability to charge other devices (reverse charge), but it isn’t clear yet if the Ascend Mate 7 does that as well.
At that price it will flop. €100 more than the Honor / MediaPadX1. For what?
Having owned the original MediaPad 7″,then the FHD10 (on which I am writing this), and current phone tge Honor X1, I was really looking forward to this one….
The real weak point of Huawei is the software. B006 had great phone, but no 5GHz wifi; B007 has 5GHz wifi, but the phone isn’t that great anymore. B009/010 bring kitkat, but also changes the dpi from 320 to 400. Thus making the device incompatible to many apps.
My advice to Huawei: take care of the software, the competition is getting very strong.
To potential buyers: don’t bother there are many other products which are better, have more features, and are cheaper.

Andi, you’ve got the wrong picture. That’s the old Ascend Mate.
IMO 6 inches is just too big for a phone, 5.5 is the max size I want. After that I might as well just carry my Nexus 7 around with me.
Hi garg, Piston 2 silently went on sale today few hours back. Bought one for me.
It should have had a QHD display.
I am also confused with the Sd card slot. Some websites are 32 GB expandable, some say 64 GB, some say 128 GB.
What is the actual amount of expandable memory???
OIS is another thing they could have added with the camera.
Does anyone knows about the memory????? Ans please.

I’ve got a Mate2 (USA) and LOVE IT! It’s fast, no lag, runs great, bright screen and 2-3 days battery life. The midrange spec devices work great for my use!
