It looks like the government boffins at TENAA got things a little wrong as the Oppo R5 has officially launching in China with a body measuring only 4.85mm.
It was rumoured that Oppo would be launching a thin phone along with the Oppo N3, and here it is! The Oppo R5 is now the worlds thinnest Android smartphone beating the previous record holder, the Gionee Elife S5.1, by almost 1mm.
So TENAA go the measurements wrong but the rest of the hardware seems spot on. The processor is a 1.5Ghz Snapdragon 616 octacore, there is 2GB RAM and the dsplay is a 5.2-inch 1920 x 1080 model.
Gizchina News of the week
Oppo R5 launch video
The R5 gets a 5 mega-pixel front and 13 mega-pixel rear camera, 2000mAh battery and VOOC fast charging. Oppo will launch the phone in China first with TD-LTE support only (so watch out if you plan to order one) and will offer the phone in silver and in a limited edition gold.
Chinese pricing for the Oppo R5 is 2999 Yuan which is around $490.
great TD-LTE only….. useless
well the international Version should have all bands

“Oppo will launch the phone in China first with TD-LTE support only” That’s the Chinese version
I’m a bit confused as to what the “R” series is for Oppo. I used to think that it consisted of their mid-range/ “budget” phones, but at $490 that doesn’t seem to be the case at all. How does this phone compare to the Find 7a (which sells for 499 on oppostyle)? Is this a lot better considering it’s a snapdragon octacore? (qualcomm also confuses me, is the 6xx series better than the 8xx series?)
Oppo’s budget is Opo.
So then what’s the difference between the R series and the Find series?
Well specs are mid range on all the R series anyway. But the pricing as i said Oppo has never provided a budget friendly. Don’t think they plan too. Trying to pass themselves as premium line.
80xx series is better than 6xx in performance.. 615 is for mid-range using a53 64bit processors which is more power efficient and have better performance than the current common a7 processor.
So basically no one would buy this phone as the Oppo Find 7a is just $9 more and has a qualcomm 801 and a bigger battery?
The first pic seem to suggest that they don’t measure the thickness of the device ,just the frame and that would be total BS. No audio jack is plain ridiculous and the battery might be too small for 1080p.
Calling the Snapdragon 615 an octa core is a bit improper, i prefer to call it dual quad since the second cluster is much lower clocks.
It is a true octa-core, all cores are A53 and on the Oppo R5 specifically they clocked all of eight cores at 1.5GHz(according the “Eight-core 1.5GHz” in settings) which is different from the default quad 1.7 + quad 1.0 configuration your talking about.
lol
still has bigger battery than iphone 6
iphone has always proven themselves to be top of the line even with low battery, low ram, low core, low resolution, low camera pixels, etc. So not a good comparison.
i’m sad, so iphone is incomparable 🙁 and your phrase “iphone has always proven themselves to be top of the line” is undeniable
iphone is love, iphone is life
Not comparable by mere numbers game is what i said in context. Even die hard android fans acknowledges it, and i have never used a iphone nor plan to use one, for you to attempt your insinuation. fail. 😉
I hate Iphone as much as most people here but I can admit Apple does a good job with optimizing iOS.
yep but just for newest devices. Try ios7 in an Iphone 4 and tell me about it….
still can’t update. Tells me not enough space. Hah Hah.
you should rethink about your nick as your comment is probably dumbest in history
Nah. They are little better (battery efficient) but still crap in that regard due to low overall size. All my android phones lived longer than iphone 4s.
Top of the line Bullcrap.
Any chinese junk has better build quality than latest iPhone6.
To add to the design incompetence as the iBendgate showed up, people are receiving phones with gaps on their screens, buggy software while costumers are received at Applestores with a “you must have used your phone incorrectly” answer.
Get your iShit together and get out of my fcking way.
And who exactly talked about build quality here ? Right
Battery?? Mi friends Iphones always die before my Xiaomi.
Low resolution?? Are you saying that they do good using low resolution? I don’t know in what is based that thing about max ppi that human eye can get, but a 2k screen looks waaaay better than any FHD screen. And that’s it.
Yeah i must give you that they play nice with low ram core and mpxls
Yep, and low bending resistance too…
i agree with you on all but not the battery part, although iphones has a good stand-by consumption but never good when in use, iphone 6 plus is an exception though ,
I wonder if anyone would build and run an Android phone on an iPhone specs and run it through comparison Antutu and what not.
That would settle who has the best hardware, and software if iPhone runs better.
worlds thinnest phone and 2000 mah battery ahahah
midrange sold to 490$ in china? 😀
oppo r5 is going to sale in indonesia in november. http://inet.detik.com/read/2014/10/30/065917/2733891/317/oppo-r5-lebih-dulu-masuk-indonesia-n3-menyusul
That is just too too thin. I played around with a Gionee 5.5 one day and that felt like it was going to slip right through my hands. Anything under 7mm is too thin for me.
