Geely, the Chinese automaker who owns Volvo, have a new flagship saloon with aggressive styling ready to pounce on the market at home and abroad.
Of all the Chinese car makers, it is Geely that really stand out to us as the ones to watch. The privately owned automaker first wet its feet in the car market with their own version of the Daihatsu Charade and even had a go at producing China’s first sports car.
The brand has now matured and is building some of the best looking mid size hatchback and saloons on the market, not to mention they also happen to own Swedish car maker Volvo.
Spotted on the road ahead of it’s official launch at the Guangzhou Auto Show this year, is the Geely GC9. The GC9 is a more aggressive and larger looking family saloon compared to the current Emegrand range and looks excellent for it.
Gizchina News of the week
The Geely GC9 has a ‘fastback’ design which basically means it has the body of a saloon but the large open tailgate of a hatchback making the 4956mm long vehicle a practical family car.
Specs for the car include a leather interior with smart display, and engine choices ranging from a self developed 1.8 Turbo to a 3.5 V6 with 6 speed manual box.
Geely have already started to market their cars outside of China with offices in Europe and the UK, so you could possibly see a Geely GC9 on the road in a few months.

Not sure where to put this comment but, I am not likely to ever buy a Chinese car and have no interest in the subject. Just wandering why all of a sudden we are seeing these car items on Giz China. I thought that Giz China was for Phones / Tablets and Electronic Gizmo’s
If you are an avid fan of Gizchina this is not new Andi posts this articles ever since 🙂
My thoughts exactly
Plenty of readers are intersted though. Just take a look at what was has been trending this week on GizChina and you will see two car articles up there above other phone news.
Just don’t click on the link then….
Most probably, you didn’t see a Chinese car and definitely you don’t know about their quality and performance. That’s why, you don’t like it. Don’t worry there are hundreds of thousands like you who without seeing the items, object on them. Open your eyes, like the smartphones, the auto market is also going to Chinese cars and trucks very soon.

I think you are planning to buy a car Andi, hence more of Automobile news seeping in your Blog than Chinese Tech Mobile News !!! Good to know. Keep it up.
I’m actually more of a Classic car person (Hillman Imp, Autobianchi A112 etc), but I do enjoy the Chinese Car Industry 😀
A real classic is the Morris Marina just don’t let the guys from get near it 🙂
Haha my mum had a Marina with a vinyl roof! Comfy reliable car, not for me though. I’m a Rootes group, Ford and odd supermini fan 😀
Sunbeam Alpine vs MGB that was good fun

Hopefully Geely has learned something from Volvo technicians about safety. Maybe you can remember the first car they wanted to sell in Europe? It was so unsafe that it was forbidden in (most countries in) Europe. Which is quite funny because Volvo builds the safest car in the world (Volvo V40).

For all those that seem to have a bias about Chinese cars shame on you. There is great vision of those companies creating motor vehicles in China. They did start off a little agricultural as have many of the major auto manufacturers in the world but they have learnt fast and have been able like no others, create changes on the run. I have been to China a few times over the last few years and ore in wonder the real progress being made not only in the automotive but in most industries. This is a truly fast moving country that has quality and proficiency its main focus. If we were able to buy more of these automobiles in Australia I for one would be lining up at the counter.
Andi would it be possible to add other section on trending in China as there are so many new ideas that are being put forward to the market. Maybe this might be too broad a subject for this group. Just a thought mate. Thanks for all that you have done to get us to this point. 🙂
