Jiayu S3 price announced at just $162 with 3GB RAM, LTE and 64Bit SoC

jiayu s3

If there was ever a time to be excited about the possibilities of the Chinese phone market then it is now, and the JiaYu S3 is just the start of it.

Jiayu have been putting the S3 together over the past few months and as usual have been open about specification and design. The only pieces that were missing were the launch date and, most importantly, the price.

Well today we at least now know the official Chinese pricing for the flagship S3, a phone that boasts 4G LTE, a 64bit Mediatek SoC and up to 3GB RAM!

jiayu s3

Jiayu will release to variants of the JiaYu S3, a 2GB RAM version costing 899 Yuan without NFC and a 3GB RAM model for slightly more at 999 Yuan with NFC. Those are the Chinese prices though, so expect to pay more once a reseller add their cut, shipping and tax to the phone, but still a good deal.

Gizchina News of the week

The rest of the phone offers a 5.5-inch 1080p display, dual SIM, 13 mega-pixel Sony IMX214 rear camera, 3000mAh battery, dual flash, and JiaYu promise accurate and fast GPS. Audio hardware is promising too, with the phone boasting dual speakers. Android 4.4 Kitkat ships as standard.

With just 16GB on board it is good to see a micro SD card is part of the package with plenty of room to spare for dual SIM slots too.

Designwise the JiaYu S3 is one of the best looking JiaYu phones we have seen to date. Body thickness is 8.9mm but a nicely tapered rear means the phone should sit in your palm well and feel thinner than it actually is. JiaYu’s designers have also done a great job of keeping the overall width down to only 75.5mm, a very respecrable figure for a 5.5-inch device. Full dimentions are 152 x 75.5 x 8.9mm.

The only detail missing now is the actual launch date which is so far set to “early January”. We seriously cannot wait to try the S3, what do you guys think?

I don’t think I have seen many Chinese phones with support of 850 band. They are usually only 900 and/or 2100mhz bands. Only some US providers are using the 850 mhz 3G band I believe. In Europe, they are using the 900 and/or 2100 Mhz band for 3G.

So you are either blind or you didnt buy any chinese phone yet…
I live in Europe and we always had problems to find one cheap chinese phone with 900mhz band. They came always with 850mhz and 2100mhz, or only 2100mhz band. Mine, in fact, has no 900mhz band. It is this year, especially Q3-Q4, when there are proliferating phones with 900mhz band (thank god)…

Xiaomi mi3/ is top quality and have other price than Jiayu phones.

            • Simon
              December 6, 2014

Fair enough, as long as the Jiayu lasts at least 12 months of usage it should be good.

            • Nick
              December 6, 2014

Well, I can’t answer your question because the Jiayu S4 will
be released probably early next year or later and its cpu will be the new Mediatek MTK MT6752 64-bit with a faster gps. Xiaomi MI3 or MI4 are great phones but it really depends on your budget and of course your personal usage. MI3 64gb version is around 310€ shipping in, MI4 64gb is around 400€ shipping in. If you can afford to pay that money then go for it. For me, the Jiayu S4 or Meizu K52 (MX4 mini) are pretty good alternatives with a better pricing.

I was listed at 329 USD on pre-sale. Maybe Jiayu are being serious in playing with the big boys. It’s hard not to buy this phone. Who needs 3GB of ram, 2 is more than enough, bring it on for 169 $ 🙂

    • Jason45
      December 4, 2014

NFC is also great (for me) and this is only available on the 3GB RAM version. You won’t be able to get this phone for 169 US dollar unless you live in China. Expect prices around 180-200 US dollar depending on the model version

I only have one word to describe this news: BULLSHIT.

This phone is not going to be sold for $200 for export, no way … Jiayu phones are of decent quality but never the cheapest. Yes they might sell 1000 pieces for this price to get some media attention but this is not going to be the regular price for this phone, not with these specs and made by Jiayu.

    • Jason45
      December 4, 2014

I don’t think they are going to lie about this price, so the price should be real. They have advertised it already with these prices. If Xiaomi can do it with their Redmi series phones, why can’t another Chinese manufacturer do the same thing. Basically a change in strategy in order to survive in the competitive market in China.

Even Meizu will release a budget phone with the same chipset as this phone and also around this price according to rumors.

The real more important question is, when do they release the phone on the market in large quantities?

They say early January, but we all know that there can be delays (especially from Jiayu), The release date of 3GB RAM version with NFC is still unknown, so you could be waiting a couple of months before they release this on the market. By then, the market could be flooded by phones with similar specs.

    • Jason45
      December 4, 2014

    • Allanitomwesh

    • Guest

Xiaomi mi3/ is top quality and have other price than Jiayu phones.
Jiayu is the cheap way to go for a phone.

    • Guest
      December 6, 2014

Fair enough, as long as the Jiayu lasts at least 12 months of usage it should be good.

    • Guest
      December 7, 2014

Well, I can’t answer your question because the Jiayu S4 will
be released probably early next year or later and its cpu will be the new Mediatek MTK MT6752 64-bit with a faster gps. Xiaomi MI3 or MI4 are great phones but it really depends on your budget and of course your personal usage. MI3 64gb version is around 310€ shipping in, MI4 64gb is around 400€ shipping in. If you can afford to pay that money then go for it. For me, the Jiayu S4 or Meizu K52 (MX4 mini) are pretty good alternatives with a better pricing.

iPhone @6.9mm (or Galaxy Alpha) uses the new core technology (20nm) and firmware to reduce the consumption and the capacity of the battery. It’s time to built better phones. Battery is the heaviest -and the biggest- part.

    • Î’Î±ÎłÎłÏŽÎœÎ·Ï‚ ÎŁÎ±ÎŒÎ±ÏÎÎ»ÎżÏ‚
      December 7, 2014

Totally. This manufacturing process offers less consumption and thermal emission, so the need of power and thermal conductivity is not so big. Intel plans to built 4-nm chip, until 2020, as I read.

I thought i would never buy anything bigger than 4.7 inch screen but after buying Xiaomi Note I think the size is not an issue and would never go back to a smaller screen – phone fits perfectly in all of my pockets and I’ve hardly ever used my tablet since. Plus it’s tougher and faster than my wife’s Samsung Note 3 (other than graphics perhaps, but noticeably so in daily use) and battery lasts much longer. Just an awesome piece of hardware that has never lagged or rebooted for the 9 months I’ve had it and I have about 300 apps installed on it… Jiayu S3 seems like an excellent phone and will definitely buy one to try.

I’ve been waiting to see JiaYu make a bigger phone, this one seems to have almost everything. I am a fan of JiaYu and look forward to seeing the resale price when it comes to market.
I like the idea of a spread sheet on new quality phones coming to market.

Just checked the prices on Ali Express and found prices from $200 for the 2GB & $225 for the 3GB model. At these prices it’s probably the best phone for the money. Looks like my Jiayu G3 will soon be retired

OH Yes, I am tempted even though the screen is a bit large, now that SOC and internals in a G5 chassis and 3000 mah battery, that would be a really great phone.

Nice. But Jiayu used us on compact (4.5-4.7 inches flagships) G5S, G4S.
Keep producing smaller phones Jiayu. Make the same phone specs plus fm radio and infrared port, with great gps in smaller bodies 4.3, 4.5, 4.7 inches and the same price range and you will surelly doninate the workd market.

Sounds great. ‘But’… I need something 4.7″ or 5.0″. That’s my max. I do not care for 5.5″ or 6.0″ phablets. I have a phone… I have a tablet… I have a laptop. But I don’t need ’em all combined. Let each serve their own purpose, alright.

Well done Jiayu, if they can keep the price cheap outside of Japan still it looks like a winner.
For such a long time they have done pricey not quite hitting the mark phones.
Dual LTE? plus sdhc is great. It’s a bit large but one plus seem to do OK.

Do not know where you get your phones from but some Ali Express stores have the S3 available from around $200 for the 2GB version. I also checked Jiayu Store.com and found it on pre-sale for $169.00. I have never ordered from Jiayu Store.com but they take payments via PayPal so you should get some security of payment through PayPal I would not pay by card though.

Just checked again it’s not on pre-sell on Jiayu Store just advertised at that price you can not pre-order it yet.

You can buy now as a pre-sale on some of the Ali Express stores, I did this when buying my Jiayu G3 2 years ago. Some people have problems with some Ali Express stores, but just like Ebay check out the feedback scores before you buy,
